Default oil pump o ring question

im putting my engine back together and i got a new pickup tube o ring from napa. the new o ring is red and a lot thicker than my old one which is blue. they are the same diameter. when i got home i searched and i found this was for the truck pickup tube. so is it ok to use the red one on a fbody pickup tube? its a stock bottom end ls1 btw.

I went through two blue o-rings before I went to the dealer and got a red one for my car. Stock pickup tube, TSP ported pump. The blue one just wasn't giving a good seal, the red one had a nice snug fit but not to tight. I would try the red one if it goes in ok I would run it.

Not to complicate things...with a new Melling pump, I was given a blue, a red, and a green ring.
A blue one came out with the old pump, but I didn't feel comfortable with the blue replacement...it didn't seem snug.
I decided to place the green one in there, which is somewhat thicker.
It worked for me.

Different people use different O-rings for seemingly the same application. I always just test fit both O-rings and go with the one that "feels" correct.

I'm using a Melling HV Oil pump with a blue GM O-ring, perfect oil pressure so far. I pinched the black one on first install - green one didn't fit correct, had to get a GM O-ring.

I always had a hard time understanding that instruction sheet. Which way is the end of the pick up tube? If they would have just put a arrow on that picture it would make a little more sense, at least to me

the jagged edge is a cutaway view of the tube, so the end of the tube is the right side.

The thing is I don't see how a ported pump makes a diff they are not ported right there. I have the slp pump and the black o ring was actually smaller than the blue one. I used the blue one mine. I also wouldn't judge on color . A gm blue may be the same as brand x red
