Help me chose a Cam!!
Im stuck between two cams that i can get locally cheap. Please help me chose which is best for my application. Looking for something thats not too choppy, with good low end power and its for a DD?
Which upgrades will i need to do with springs, push rods, rockers?
2001 Camaro SS A4 mods: mac mid headers ory, ported TB and MAF, Magnaflow exhuast w/cutout.
first choice Thunder Racing CheaTR 214/230 .601/.578 117 lsa
Second choice TSP 224/224 .581"/.581" 112 lsa
Thanks in advance...

224 cam hands down.
It won't chop too much, but it will make it's presence known audibly.
Keep the stock rockers, if you want you can do the trunion upgrade: http://www.tickperformance.com/comp-...union-upgrade/
And go with BTR Platinum springs which have not had a failure ever since their inception in 2005: http://www.tickperformance.com/brian...ll-ls-engines/
Also push rods: http://www.tickperformance.com/pushrods/

I would go with the TSP 224/224 .581"/.581" 112 lsa, single springs(600 lift)ex comp 918 or pac 1218, TSP 7.4'' hardened push rods, dyno tune, and the stock rocker arms will do the trick. And since you are in there in wouldn't hurt to go ahead and change to an ls2 timing chain and upgraded oil pump
SN: Not saying its the best choice of all DD cams, just what i would choose from what you have listed because i ran a similar setup when I had my TSP 228R

thanks for the quick reply; i was leaning toward the TSP 224R. As for chain and oil pump i will add that to the list. Im on a budget so my next question is will any LS2 timing chain work? Push rods? New vs. used?
Rockers i was planning on upgraded the trunions and springs i will definitely get new

Don't really know is there is any major differences between the two as far as performance, I was going off personal experience with TSP cams. Far as the ls2 chain I would think all of them are the same. With the push rods and chain I would say they are ok to buy used as long as you get them with low miles. You don't wanna get a set of rods and one of them end up being bent or something like that or a chain with a lot of miles and it ends up being weak and break on you.

TSP sells the 224 with a 115 LSA. That will cut down the chop quite a bit. I would not get the CheaTR because of thunder racings reputation.
Perhaps a custom grind like 224/228 .581/.600 116+2 LSA will work for you? Im no expert though. That is why I had vengeance spec my cam.

Seeing that this is for Cali. and the mid length headers (weird since from what I know one can't change catalitic conv. positions) I would lean more towards -6* overlap or less. A cam similar to Cheatr specs but custom if TR has issues lately??) meaning more exhaust biased than no split 224
