I will be using the br30 in my new 408 with comp cam 247. 263 cam and trickflow 245 heads. My engine builder told me to use the joe Gibbs ls30 oil so that's what I'm going to use but I just want some thoughts on this oil

I was recommended by a lot of builders for the joe Gibbs. I've used it a few times with no problems, I was using the br30.

I am personally not a fan of synthetics and run Valvoline's VR1 conventional oil in straight 30W ... my local O'Reilly's typically keeps it in stock for several locals and can get it in 24 hours if they run out of stock. Any motor oil that is high in ZDDP will do as long as your not running cats. Just be sure to choose the correct weight whether straight or multigrade for your weather and engine.

Mobil-1 is nearly a 20W oil at 100 degrees C. I looked at the JG oil, their XP3 10W-30 is 12 Cst at 100 degrees C.

This might be a good replacement for the German Castrol that is getting hard to find depending on the cost comparison.

I don't know why anybody would use anything other than German Castrol.

Agreed that Joe Gibbs oil is a short duration race oil.

NASCAR engines use Mobil 1 regardless of what lube is advertised on the cars.

Just copied/pasted this from the Joe Gibbs site. LS30 is clearly not a race only oil:

Synthetic 5W-30
LS30 delivers new Ultra High Viscosity Index synthetic base oil technology in a street performance motor oil designed for GM LS based engines. LS30 features a high zinc content to protect aggressive cam profiles, and the advanced synthetic formula delivers high temperature protection. Combined, LS30 provides protection for street/strip applications that call for a 5W-30 viscosity oil. Not every high performance engine lives in a race car. High Performance engines can be found under the hood of modern muscle cars. These engines often have a double life. One day cruising the highway and the next tearing up a track. Engines like these need oil that protects on the road, on the track and in the garage. Joe Gibbs Driven LS30 delivers enhanced film thickness as well as increased anti-wear additives for high output LS based engines.

High Zinc Content - Higher level of Zinc (ZDP) delivers proper anti-wear protection for high output engines and aggressive cam designs.
Extra Film Thickness - Advanced synthetic technology provides high shear protection for supercharged engines.
Storage Protection - Protects against rust and corrosion damage when your engine is not running. Defends against moisture drawn into the engine by modern ethanol blended fuels. Utilizes a tenacious oil film technology developed for the U.S. military.

Yes, but they also have a high performance street oil that is good for a lot longer. I go 3000 miles on the HR1 15w50 in my 418 TSP. And will be switching to the synthetic HR3 15w50 after I have 5000 miles on the new engine.

Also used the Joe Gibbs break in oil that came with the engine.

I just put it in my car 4 weeks ago from a non-syn of the same weight.

The oil temps are lower. Car went faster this weekend for the condions I ran in.
I like what I see inthe data with load on the motor the pressure is just a little higher but the pressure when not under a heavy load is the same.

The rep told me it is good for a daily driver.

Good info here but I'll b going with the joe Gibbs br30 for break in and I'll run there ls30 after and see how she does. I know higher zinc is better in these engines but I ran mobile one synthetic oil in it all the time and spun a bearing so I won't be using it no more. I rather pay for better oil than having to pay for this again

I'm certain you're correct. I should've said MOST NASCAR engines use M1.

Joe Gibbs, Kendall, and Brad Penn. I do not use anything else and do not recommend anything else.

GM recognizes Kendall and Brad Penn. Personally i recommend Kendall.
