Default cam install question

Is it possible to change out the cam with the engine in the car? Is there a good write up to do this? Want to tackle it this fall.

ls1howto.com has got to be one of the best write ups out there for a cam swap. Done a cam swap in an ls1 f-body countless times. I got an award for changing my cam more times than i change my under ware.

It helps to pull the AC condenser but it does not have to come all the way out.

Read the entire cam swap write up on ls1howto.

Just an FYI for all of you folks using LS1howto...

While it's a great outline on how to change camshafts, there is a large chunk of information left out mainly on how to set up the valvetrain.

-7.4 pushrods are NOT the correct length for an aftermarket camshaft
-Each rocker needs to be TQ'd while the lifter is on the base circle of the camshaft. NOT "straight down the line at 22ft lbs"

Those are just a couple of tidbits that LS1howto is missing, but JMX did a good service to thousands of folks putting that site up.
