my 5.3 had 145k miles when I tore it down and the cam bearings had nearly double that much copper showing, so yes.

the copper is normal, from what I've been told you don't need to change them.

A lot of these Ls cam bearings show copper for whatever reason. The only way to tell if the bearing is out of spec is to measure it. I've seen pics on here of bearings in way worse shape!

I had this same opinion when I first saw it, but this is the first LS I've been inside. I wonder what the rods & mains look like, I guess theres only one way to know for sure.
I was hoping this was a usable shortblock not needing a rebuild.

i wouldnt worry about them cam bearings, ive ran almost
similar cam bearings on my 6liter for almost 1.5 yrs, @640hp

youll be fine

They look fine. These engines had cam bearings showing copper from the factory. It's part of the machining process for cam fitment.

Nothing to worry about.
