Default bearings... replace or not. pics inside.

So im in the middle of a h/c/i swap and while i have the motor out i took a look at the bearings. These are #1rod... im a little scared of just replacing the bearings on this crank... how does it look to you guys? Can i get away without machining the crank and just replacing the bearings? Motor has plenty of oil pressure

Should i just take it to a shop and pay up?

Agreed ... the quesiton is can I replace the bearings without machine work ... or do I need to have the crank atleast polished? Then if I do that ... should I then send the whole block out to get line honed decked and whatever else the machine shop is going to want to do to that block?

I am already into this build for 3k ... its getting way too expensive.

If its still within spec then you might get away with just a polish. Take it to a shop and ask

A picture of the journal itself would help, but I would say you need to go to a better oil and shorten your change interval, also could be oil dilution from water or fuel.

If you have good oil pressure now, then fixing the problem which is oil breakdown and contaminants in the oil will keep it from getting worse, and you could roll in some new bearings and be on the road without issue. If you want to pull the crank then it can be mic'd and possibly polished if the scratches are not too deep.

If the crank journal is shiny and you can't catch your fingernail on those scratches then run it with new bearings if you're on a budget. I've honestly seen much worse that people have just rolled new bearings into and gone another 100K with.

Take to a good machine shop unless you got the measuring tools neccesary (micrometer, bore dial gauge, etc)
