Default 5.3 questions

Hey guys just wanted to ask if this black bracket on the rear driver side head is necessary. Its stoping ny LS1 intake from laying flush. Also i was wondering if I need a F body steam pipe because I have a 2005 5.3 engine it has the block plates on the rear steam ports and the 2 front ones are connected but the outlet is really close to the intake. Can i just bend it a little? I see that the throttle body also has steam port connections on it also can I bypass those or do I need to connect those with the coolant steam lines? Also does the steam line just plug into the nipple on the radiator fillerneck?

If bracket, you mean the part in your second pic held on to the end of the head with 1 bolt, no you don't need it. Pretty sure it's for lifting the engine at the factory, although that's just a guess on my part. But I know for sure you don't have to keep it. No experience bending the steam line, but woukd think it's do able. Don't have to hook it up to the throttle body, that just to warm the throttle body for drivability in cold weather.

You can bend the steam line, I have had to do it for other applications to get some intakes to fit, and that bracket can be removed, its not necessary.

IIRC that bracket was some sort of "safety" bracket or something for the fuel rails. Ditch it.

Agree with Jake on bending the crossover. I've done it before and no issues here.

Okay thanks guys I was wondering if someone can post a pic of exactly where they were out it there steam line to a lot of people on another form were telling me that you have to "tie in" the steam ports tube in an existing radiator hose. Can someone elaborate on this?

The bracket is there to keep the fuel rails from being shoved backwards in an accident on trucks. It's not needed on the ls1's as they sit way lower.

How is that? There is no hole in it. It's a safety feature for the fuel rails.

You have to vent that steam port line to either a heater hose or top radiator hose....search "jags that run" they sell a nice inline adapter for the radiator hose which has a 90 degree nipple to connect the hose to the steam port and another port with a petcock to bleed air out of the system...I believe the adapter is $33....OR you you could drill and tap the water pump and vent the steam port there

There is no hole to show. Zoom in on the last picture. It's not there. You must have something different.

I knew I'd find it eventually. The question has come up before.
