Default How much more Spring lift can you run than Cam lift?

Say you have a .600 lift cam, What is the largest spring lift you can run? Or does it matter. Ex: .610,.630,.650?

There is really more to matching a set of springs than just matching the lifts.

You could have coil bind on one spring that equates out to .650" lift that has more open and seat pressure than a spring that has coil bind at .675" lift that has less open and seat pressure.

You'll want to match your springs to the weight of your valve-train and the lobes your cam uses.

The more aggressive the lobe and/or the heavier the valve-train the more spring pressure you will need.

Ok. The reason I'm asking is bc my car came with a aftermarket cam but I don't know the specs of it. And I have a set of 243's I want to put on my ls1 but I don't know what springs to get.

Those springs look like an excellent deal.

Might be a dumb question but say when it comes time to replace my current springs, would the titanium retainers from the Patriot Gold kit by chance be compatible with those to help save some cost?

One thing that some people forget is that excessive spring pressure wastes horsepower. Sure, you need only enough for proper opertion of your rocker gear. Any more than that takes away precious horsepower.

But how much real-world-horsepower can excessive springs really cost?

Yes they will! You can purchase just the Platinum springs and they drop right in place of any Patriot Gold or Xtreme springs!

They're a tremendous upgrade to anyone running the Gold springs.

Holy smokes that is an epic deal! I'm honestly surprised I have not heard of these before.

Thanks for posting guys, I will definitely be getting a set to put on the shelf for when it comes time to check my golds.

No I don't, but if your cam has less than .600 lift then the open pressure will drop below 380lbs.

What cam are you running?

It's a great deal for people with worn Gold or Xtreme springs.

The platinum springs will be perfect for that cam if you're using stock rockers.

Lift isn't the determining factor in spring selection, lobe intensity is the first then coil bind versus installed height versus the valve lift of the cam.

Won't the retainers from my PRC's work on these?
