I hope you are not try to use this, if so the springs you worked on should probably be replaced.

Any nicks or scratches on the springs can be a failure point

I borrowed this from a friend http://www.summitracing.com/parts/WMR-W89409/ and it worked like a champ. KD tools make one similar for $8 cheaper. Don't get a flimsy one. For double springs you need one that they use for diesels and such. Took me 15 min to install them.

I just use a crowbar type valve spring compressor from o'reilys. Its like $10.
I just use a water pump bolt with wd-40 on it and a 3/4 shallow socket as a spacer between said tool and bolt with flat washer. Works like a charm. Just put a rag between tool and gasket face of the head to keep from knicking it up. Hope this helps.

I used in car. You cut the handle off. Leave about 3 or 4 inches.
Worked no problems. There are easier tools that make the job faster. I just didn't want to spend $100 on a tool. Good luck.

Exactly, those spring on which the "claw" tool was used should be replaced to prevent a failure down the road.
