Headers and an O/R Y, then a tune. You could do it for possibly less than, or right around $500 if you play your cards right and buy cheap stuff. Headers may not last long or hold up great, but you likely see the most gains from them if you can do a tune.

I got my new eBay stainless headers for under 200. I cut off the air tubes. Welded that crap up myself with some stainless wire. Bought a tsp y pipe. That's should put you under 500. The eBay headers dident fit perfect. They still rattle a bit sometimes but ill eventually get under their and clearance them or get tired of them next time their off for more mods and buy some tsp headers. Lol

You ask for suggestions so here's mine: Save another $100 bucks or so and buy a GMMG catback either new or used. Or get your hands on a Magnaflow catback over at WS6Store because he has them for just a few bucks over $500. Thats just my opinion. I'm more into having nice things rather than a lot of things and thats my suggestion to you. If 400 rwhp is your only goal then buy a nitrous kit. I know you said you don't like it but it's about as realistic as you can get for $500. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Do people here usually install headers themselves or do they get them installed? Because I could do it I just don't want my car out of commission for more than a weekend.

^ It's definantly not the most difficult thing to do and if you have any generel mechanical knowledge I'm sure you can handle it. If you have a buddy that can help out too, you could do it in a saturday afternoon and that's assuming you've never done it before. When I installed my Kooks it took me about 5 hours from he time I started until I had the car running and I did it entirely by myself. Although I've probably installed a dozen of them. Getting all the factory stuff out is the hard part (for me anyway).

Throttle body is worthless in my eyes on a stock motor....and most times people port them they are doing more harm than good...

If I were you I would try to score some used headers, ls6 intake, and a cai

Thank you! I never speak my mind on this bc everybody and their brother on here keep telling others to port their tb as an entry level mod. I understand its a budget mod, but also WORTHLESS for many applications...save your time and money for mods that actually advance your setup.

Headers aren't hard. Pull the coil packs, steering linkage, unbolt the old exhaust and bolt them back up. You can do it in a day no problem. Just make sure the car is really high in the air. You need to able to basically turn the header straight up and slide it in from the bottom. A buddy will come in handy to. It makes it alot easier if someones under the car to help hold the header up to get the bolts in. I'd also do motor mounts while you got the headers off.

The good news is with these cars being around a while you can pick up good used parts on the cheap. Provided the car doesn't need basic maintenance first you could probably find a lid, headers, exhaust all right in the $500 range. You said stock so I am assuming that you are going from zero modifications. Remember changing out the stock air box on a 4th Gen Fbody was worth an honest 25 Hp.

If you do do motor mounts make sure you do one side at a time lining it back up would be very hard if both were out I took both mine out when I changed to poly mounts and 400 rwhp that's what there saying I'm pushing with all the mods in my Sig haven't got tuned yet waiting on a few more things so ill let you know after tune

Literally when I first got my stock 98z28 it could do about 135mph then I put on a cold air intake, lid, and cat back (all SLP) and then it was able to go off the speedo (160+mph)! Def should be able to find all this cheap on the classifieds...

If you do get headers hedman sells brand new painted for $250, I didn't even have to remove the steering bc they fit good

I hit 160 with me and two friends in the car a few months back... Would I get more if I do ls6 intake + long tubes? I heard that you get 15 hp from ls1 to ls6 and then I'll probably get around 10-15 with headers...

And what are some "free mods"? You mean like porting the tb? Should I port the ls6 or would it not be worth it?

This. I save up for each mod a little more, so that I have nicer stuff. Could have cheaper out of 1-3/4 headers but I waiting a little more and got 1 7/8. When i pick up a cam, itll be custom, and as a package with all the right parts. no use loading your car up with shitty parts, just to want to redo it, when you get tired of doing burnouts at stop lights.

Also, a little off topic, but does anyone else notice that the f body crowd is getting younger and younger....

You guys do realize that the stock fuel cutoff is 155 right? Your not going 160, stock speedo's are way off on these after 100.

Fbody crowd isnt getting any younger, we are getting older, as in the last wave of new blood.
