Default LS6 Cam and Valve Springs

What do you all think of the LS6 Cam and Valve Springs? Is this a good cam and what kind of horsepower gains can you expect with this kit. (218 intake/204 exhaust duration @ .050", .550"intake/.550" exhaust lift, and 117.5" lobe separation. Plus the LS6 Valve Springs.)

Also, what do you all think of the Gen 3 Hot Cam Kit? Is this a good kit and what kind of horsepower gains can you expect with this kit. (219 intake/228 exhaust @ .050", .525" intake/525" exhaust, plus 16 LS6 valve springs).

Saw both kits in the Summit Racing Catalog. Interested on both kits, but which do you all think is the best.

It depends on your goals. The LS6 cam will idle very smooth with no lope and will make great topend power 4000rpms to 6500rpms. The LS6 cam will make no increase over your stock cam until around 4000rpms. The LS6 cam will run fine on your stock tune but to get the full power potential a tune is needed.

The Hotcam is a lopey SOB! Sounds alot larger than it really is due to the wide duration split and low 112LSA. The Hotcam will provide a increase all through the powerband. The Hotcam will more than likely need a tune to be driveable as well for max performance. Both cams will make around the same peak Rwhp with the Hotcam the better of the two. Before you get one of these cams I would advise you to call some of our sponsors to see what their cams can do for you.... Futural, TR, MTI, TSP ect.... They have alot better power producing and better driveability cams than the LS6 @ Hotcam.

i saw a non sponsor selling an ls6 cam with springs i believe for $219 on sale right now.thats a good price.


if the car youre thinking of putting it in run 11s already you might as well get a monster cam.

dont know if it matters, but you've got it backwards. 204 - intake, 218 - exhaust. .551 - intake, .547 - exhaust.

Forget what I said last time because I base lined my car on one dyno and dyno'd on another after the cam install. I want back to the dyno that I base lined on with just a lid and cat-back. After checking the gain with the addition of the cam, I had it tuned. Here are the final results and I feel that this is truly representitive of what an LS6 cam can do on a stock car. Car is a 2002 SS M6 with 3.42's. The dyno numbers posted are the avarage of all runs made with the indicated mods. All dyno runs were done on the same dyno but different days.
Also all numbers are SAE corrected and the car has no free mods ie: free ram air or throttle body bump stop or TB bypass. The car has stock exhaust manifolds, cats and y-pipe.

Lid/Holley Filter/Cat-back....319RWHP 339RWTQ
Lid/Holley Filter/LS6 cam/Cat-back.......339RWHP 338RWTQ
Lid/Holley Filter/LS6 cam/Tuning/Cat-back......348RWHP 346RWTQ
