Default Help!+

Hey guys, dont know if this is the right forum or not. Anyways, driving home from a buddys house tonight, my car starts running really shitty. i go to get on it a little bit, and it doesnt want to rev, it kinda chugs. Luckily I'm a mile away from home, so i baby it there. pulling in to my sub the check engine light comes on, so I grab my handy scanner and I get code 0300, random multiple misfire. this is the first time I've gotten this code, and I've had the cam in the car almost a month. I got the car dyno tunedat APE 2 weeks ago and its been running great. What could it be?! HELP!

If it was running shitty then there is something wrong. People usually get the P0300 code while idling just from adding a cam, however you said your car was chugging. I would check each of the plugs or at least the ones you can reach easily. Check the plug wires for any signs of a short and make sure they are attached firmly. I have had missfires on my '00 Z28 and my '96 neon and both problems have been traced to the wires.

I have brand new (put them on a month before I did headers) MSD wires and brand new NGK TR-55's. Could this possibly be cause by a vacuum leak? when I installed that catch can is when my idle problems started, esp on cold starts.

The wires appear to all be fine, I just gave them a quick once over. I was hoping it was something stupid like a vacuum hose popped off my catch can and it was fugging up my AF ratio. I fired it up again this morning and it still did the same thing, chugging away. It wasnt backfiring or anything, it just runs like ****! What should I do?

Check: Plugs, wires, coils, vacuum leaks.

My guess is that you burnt through a plug wire.

Try bypassing the catch can and see if it goes away.. It should at least help you narrow it down.

How would I have burnt through a plug wire though? I have headers on the car and the wires arent even remotely close. Should I replace them anyways? I'm going to go bypass the catch can, hopefully that will shed some light. Back in a few minutes

You said you gave the wires a once over, make sure they are snuggly plugged into coil packs. Sometimes they don't get pushed all of the way in and come lose just enough...or like someone else, said, may have burnt one...could be vacuum leak with the catch can, intake, how about cam position sensor?

Cam position sensor? Where on earth is that?! I unplugged my catch can, still ran like doodoo. If I unplug my MAF, and then start it, will that bypass the sensors? That will let me know if a sensor is bad. I have an OBDII scan tool, and its only picking up 0300... so I really doubt its a sensor.

ok, unplugged the MAF, still runs like ***. Now what? Could I have fouled a plug? They only have 1000 miles on them, for 500 miles it ran untuned and I know it was running pretty lean. I also know TR55's are copper and they foul easier than a platinum plug would.

Go over everything, and make sure all wires are plugged in good. If you can't find anything, give us a call. If you can bring it by we will take a look at it for you. Just let me know. Hopefully you are just missing something easy.

Thanks

As has been said, use your scan tool to watch the misfire counts on all 8 cylinders and see what is going on. Once you have that data it'll be easier to figure out what to do next.

You need to check for a broken valve spring before you drive the car much more.

I hope its not a broken valvespring, I used LS6 springs which I hear are pretty forgiving, and I only have the hotcam which isnt really aggressive. I dont beat on it, the rev limiter is set at 6600, and I wait until it warms up a bit before I even attempt to get on it. May as well check if the coil packs are off. Wouldnt it be making funny noises though?

Ok so I'm changing my plugs, I got 2 of them out and theyre black. Thats bad right? I mean black black. The plugs themselves and the threads look new but the end thats actually in the cylinder is BLACK!

EDIT: 4 out now, all from the drivers side. They're all black, slightly damp, and smell of gasoline. Whats gives?

I would check the O2 sensors like mentioned above. If you are running rich then obviously something is telling your computer to dump more fuel. However if you are having coil pack problems or something that would cause your spark plugs not to fire then they could still look like that.
