450+ hp LQ4 Build on a budget
#41
Just a quick update.
I've been doing some bargain hunting and was able to get a lot for what I believe to be a good deal.
Meiling oil pump M295 - $40 (new)
LS2 timing chain & gear set $35 (new)
PAC 1219x - $150 (used less than 100miles)
Rockers & trunnion upgrade - $140 (used/new upgrade kit)
92mm TB w/IAC & TPS sensor - $190 (new)
Stock head gaskets and complete bottom end gaskets - $130 (new)
I'm still need to purchase my new pushrods. But I'm unsure of how to measure. Can someone please explain to me what I must do? I've tried searching but still a little unclear to me.
Also I lucked up on a LS6 valley cover from a friend. After doing a little research I've read that this will help improve oil consumption on the older gen III. I would prefer not to use a catch can. I'm hoping that I will only need a breather for the passenger valve cover and intake to cover tube.

You can also check the connecting rods, they are probably LS2-style as well.

Thats a pretty tight budget, but i did a 408 with a forged bottom end and a relatively stock LS3 top end, and made 440whp on a stingy mustang dyno through a t56. The tuner said its close to being a 10 second car just needs a set of gears. I think i put about 4k-5k into the motor. I daily drive the car and its really pretty streetable. Best mpg so far around town is 17.2, if your worried about that at all.

for a strong daily driver, the 6.0 will do great with a 228-232 cam, tbss or nnbs truck intake and tb, long tubes, underdrive pulley, mill the 317s .030 to bump compression up to work with cam, 3600 stall and at least 3.73s. 6.0s kill trannys so either 6 spd or 4l80 is your best bet. feel free to pm with any ?s you may have....good luck with your project, rob
