Well no actually it's not quite just "a tenth". That's a general rule of thumb under certain circumstances. It does not always apply......Now, I have no crash protection front+rear (40 lbs, $400), tubular chromoly k member (30lbs, $500), no spare and no way to change it (40lbs, free). So I've given up something that could leave me stranded and spent $900 plus install time to save the 110 pounds. Save $800 by going cast on the motor? I don't think so, look what I've had to trade off so far. Think about this, if I buy the cast engine, and already have the above parts and gain the weight back.....what do I delete or buy next to get me back to where I was. Will I only spend $900 this time around or will it cost me more? Will I only lose a minor convenience, or will the impact be greater the next 100 pounds? You can only X so many things off a list and once they're X'd they're X'd. Can't re-X them.....Get it?

I would pass on the iron block but other than that the setup looks solid.

Iron block isn't an issue. The PRC 237 heads are fine. I'd just do a cam with different lobes (and TSP can do it - $20 more I believe and can set it to work with the CID and heads). EHT springs or not, LSK beats the **** out of the valvetrain.

Get a custom cam for your setup. This is a no brainer.

With the right cam this will be a fantastic daily driver, pull the trigger and order the motor. There you go!!!

I would also make sure that I was planning on keeping the car long term, you are getting ready to drop some serious money into your car, remember this is not an investment.

Good luck with the build and keep us updated!!!

So what should I tell them I want for a cam. I'm not going to sit here and try to even sound like I know what im talking about. All ill be doing is the install. I want a pretty big cam, just somethimg.that won't force me to have to replace the springs in 30k miles

they will ask you stuff about your setup and how you drive and what you will be doing with the car and go from there, just make sure your honest with them bc the cam will be based on the stuff you tell them

Yikes Sorry buddy aftermarket cams require way more maintenance then stock cams. Having a set of springs last 30k with a decent sized cam would be awesome, to most. I'd say your priorities and expectations here are a little off base.

I would suggest talking with someone from TSP since you are going to be buying the engine from them(Aaron or John) and letting them know what your goals are.

X2

Also...I would go with a custom cam not an MS4. For the best performance anyways. Just my opinion.

glad you had better luck with them building your motor then a couple peple i know. Both motors had major issues with less then 2k on one and 5k on another. plastic guages left between bearings and crank, wrong bearings, wrong piston rings, different cam then specd out. disapointing

Wow! That's crazy. Me and my friends have had the exact opposite experience. I have had my TSP 402 ls2 for over 5 years and have not had a single problem. Very drivable and bullet proof. 2 stages of nitrous and all. Can't say I haven't broken a couple of rear ends but the motor is solid.
