Just figure Id make a piston slap poll havent seen one before. I really wanna see how many of us how affected that badly by it if not at all. Please poll your most recent or worst problem if any you are experiencing or if you have no problems at all. THANKS

you might consider a "check all that apply" in this poll. I bought my '00 TA used with 47k miles on it. less than 5k miles later, I find that it consumes oil at a rate of 1 quart/100 miles, knocks - slaps - ticks - burps - farts - you name it. Always sux to find out you bought a pollished turd. But, on the bright side, it forces me to build the motor up sooner than later!

My piston slap started @ about 18,000 mi. I don't hear anything immediately on start up, but after about 30 sec. or so, it starts in with the slapping. It lasts until the engine is warmed up and then goes away. I burn about 1/2 qt. of oil in 3000 mi. Has anyone had the problem solved by replacing the oil pump o-ring?

My LS1 hasn't been fired up yet, so I can't comment on it. However, my 5.3L Silverado "piston slap" has been getting worse over the last 10k miles. It's loud, but only for the first 30 seconds when it's cold. I have 65k miles on the truck and have noticed no degredation in power or performance over the life of the truck.

I've always had lifter noise, they were replaced under warranty at 25,000 miles. Still has the noise now at 40,500.
Noise is almost always there, cold, hot, always. Never burns a drop of oil.

Have about 62,500 miles on my 2002z28......I just get piston slap on start ups when its cold, but after it warms up it goes away. Switched to German castrol and its a little bit quiter.
I know this is normal on ls1 cars but does anyone know why this happens?
