Thunder Racing Trex Cam Idea
Ok so i have been wanting to cam my mostly stock 1998 Z28 Camaro M6 since i got it. I have also been wanting 4.10 rear gears. Now i know big *** cams arent all that popular here on LS1 Tech from what i have read but please humor me. So the plan is if i get that cam or one thats similar and base my supporting mods around it what kind of power will i be looking at. Also what kind of power will i make just on that cam. I recently had my car dynoed and it put down 301hp at the rear wheels and 306a lbs-tq. So i would like to know your guys opinions on this setup. And yes i know i will lose some driveability.

What supporting mods, there are many variables to change the hp/tq output. You will have to be more specific on what other parts you want to use, not try to be a a**hole just want to give you the most accurate estimate.

The plan for supporting mods would be 1 7/8" long tubes a fast intake and tb either 92 or 102mm and probably send my stock heads to AI for some porting. As of now i only have a Borla cat back. So what kind of power would it make cam only with a good tune?

If your going to send any heads to be ported, start with something better. Pick up a set of 5.3 heads and send them out. The larger cams like you are looking at love compression. To get the compression they like without ptv issues, you'll need the small chamber of The 5.3 head.
With the ls1 intake and only a cat back, that's about right. You may break 380 but that ls1 intake will not breathe up top where the t Rex makes all it's power.
The problem is, the t Rex won't start making power until close to 4k, and your intake and heads will stall out around 5500. So you really only have 1500 rpms worth of good power

That Trex has a very narrow power band that won't be that much fun on the street
and will flat out suck w\o supporting mods and gears. 4:10s on a M6 10 bolt sounds risky. Thunder is recommending 4:30s or lower and their avertising car is running 4:56s

My 2 cents would be to get the rpm it comes in at 2000rpm or less

"TR TRuTorq" Level 2 - 223/230 .609/.604 115 LSA 1800-6500 RPM Power Band. Excellent mid-range & high RPM power. Good bottom end and mid-range torque. Requires computer tuning. Due to the fast ramp rate of this camshaft, the use of 1.8 rockers is not recommended.
LS6 intake,LT Headers, ORY,Springs, Hardened push rods. Comp trunion upgrade, Timing chain , Oil pump

AI 219HCR heads
AI cam kit
AI ported Fast 102mm intake
Throw in all of the necessary supporting mod and you'll have a solid 440-470hp setup without having to put up with a big donkey dick cam or spending $2000 on aftermarket casting heads. Heck 440hp doesn't sound out of the question with just a LS6 intake instead of a Fast102.

Just so you know, most of the opinions you'll find here on the Trex cam are unsubstantiated; meaning most of those people have never owned a car with it, and are only regurgitating other peoples misleading ideas and thoughts.
You should look up opinions and numbers posted from people that ACTUALLY run one, or at least have before. I've gone 11.7 @117 on 1.7 60ft, dynoed 405 rwhp in mid summer heat, and that's a cam only stock 853 head with a few bolt ons (LT, UDP,LS6 intake) and 4.10s out back at 3800lbs. It's VERY streetable, and a blast to run! Is it the best cam out there? No, power band is a little narrow, but it's all about knowing you car.
Aside from that, you'll need to know where YOU want your powerband to be, and in any case, a custom grind cam will almost always be better suited than an "off the shelf" grind.
