Default Katech employee Dan's 729hp (NA) 6.0L drag race engine

This project has been a long time in the making (as most projects that you do in your spare time do) and a couple of our employees just wrapped it up over the weekend. It's going in Dan's Silverado drag race truck. Made 729hp STP which is 2hp/ci or 122hp/L.

6.0L Iron block
15:1 compression
Auto Verdi dry sump pump
ARE pan
C5-R small port heads
Jesel valvetrain
FAST XFI controller
Kinsler vertical intake

Way more than $20k. Since it's an employee project that has some used parts on it I don't know for sure. I would start by doubling your estimate.

That thing is wicked!

This might be a noob *** question but what are the benefits from going from individual coils to a distributor?

I would guess that that's a magneto and magnetos' produce a much hotter spark than anything that is'nt a magneto .

It was the personal opinion of Dan that the coils would not be able to keep up at high RPM. This is what some of the boosted guys are doing with similar engines.

It's not a magneto. It's a conventional distributor with a single coil pack and driven by a MSD 7AL.

What? $40K?? What is the money spent on? Does this engine have stock internals?

This makes 572 BBC sounds like a discount.

Is that really that exciting a number for a dry sump 15:1 LS variant?

A friend has a 23degree pump gas 402 that makes that, sure it has a displacement advantage but it is wet sump, pump gas 23degree all substantial disadvantages.
http://www.hotrod.com/featuredvehicl...g_to_be_small/ won his class on dragweek this year.

I would have expected more from such a max effort build, though I haven't really gotten my hand dirty with the LS yet.

^^^ he could have limits on what he can run for his class too.

Also no way this car has stock ls anything. Internals are def forged and I imagine those c5r heads are 5k+ this is def purpose built

that is amazing to me that you guys are able to get that much hp out of a 6.0

I applaud the effort.

but for that money, I would be getting an all aluminum reher morrison 665,
1340 hp and over 1000 ft lbs of torque NA

The block is the only thing stock LS in this engine. Bryant crank, Carrillo rods, Diamond pistons, C5-R race heads, titanium valves, Jesel lifters/rockers/belt drive.

This wasn't built to get the most horsepower per dollar and sell the package to consumers. It was just a fun project by one of our employees. I just wanted to share it with you guys.

Not hating and not one upping.
It is a gen 1 that makes the same power and seems to use a similar rpm range and hell probably cost the same despite a plain old Callies magnum crank and Lunati rods instead of Bryant/Carrillo.

I just thought the LS platform with their advanced heads could do better.
