Oil pressure during WOT, is this normal?
During some WOT runs yesterday my PSI went to about 70ish (aftermarket pump from katech) while I was @ WOT the PSI dropped, to about 50ish, then I went to second, it went up to 70ish, then dropped off again.
Is this normal?
at idle it seems to be normal, just above 40psi
I think I am a qt low on oil, do you think that could cause it?
oil change is due soon.

It's more than likey your gauge. You should go to a more accurate guage, and even have those checked for accuracy. I would check the oil level, and start keeping a logbook of everything. I know with the old style pumps, all you had to do to change pressure was change out a spring. I don't know how these pumps for the LS1 engines work. What viscocity oil are you using?

The relief spring on a stock pump opens at about 70psi. It dumps off excess oil back into the oil pan to keep the pressure at or below 70. If you are a qt low, quit beating on the car and fill it up. Oil pressure shouldnt fluctuate like that when at WOT. More than likely, the higher pressure pump pumps more oil and starts emptying the pan when at high rpm. I ALWAYS keep the oil a little over full.

Please elaborate more, that doesn't really tell me much. At WOT I am getting pretty high oil pressure tho.
And when it does dip down, it dips to about 50psi...

I agree, it's probably just the pressure relief valve in the oil pump. When it opens, the pressure goes down, then it will close, then the pressure goes back up, then it opens again...etc.
You oil pressure is not getting to high. Mine at WOT goes up and holds at 80 psi.

At WOT, the pressure shouldnt fluctuate like that though. It could be as simple as a shitty gauge...You may have a sticking relief valve, leaking oil pump o ring, or worn bearings. When my engine is running 3000rpm+, the pressure is always right at about 70. Since you have a 99, I'd suspect a sticking valve...which one day it may stick all the way open.

When I did the cam I got an upgraded pump from Katech. If I keep the rpm's @ like 3k, the oil pressure will stay up, if I go WOT, it goes down, comes back up, goes down, ect.

If the gauge is OK, something is REALLY wrong. I've seen gauges do that when the pump starts to suck air. Next thing, you'll hear a tick.. tick.. tick... then BANG... BANG... BANG... then you get to see what your rods look like without disassembling the engine.

My car has the same problem. It goes away with fresh oil. When I go to the track I always change the oil before I go and theres no problems. As the oil gets older the oil pressure drop starts happening. It most severe while accelerating hard in 1st gear. 2nd gear is fine unless its more than a 1/2 quart low. Also when the engine is hot its more of a problem.
I am gonna try a synthetic like mobil 1. Maybe its more resistant to heat and contamination. Also there is a longer oil filter you can use for a lil more oil reserve.
The oil pressure droppin got me all paranoid. All I watch is the oil pressure gauge now. Its unnerving to see the oil pressure start droppin as the rpms go up.
