Default Lpe 243 cnc heads

Hey guys i am bidding on some lpe heads. They say they are 250cc that flow 311 and 222 at .600. But the say that i would have to epoxy 4 intake runners. But i cant find where to ask the sellar a question. So my questions are 1) how big or small a cam would make 250cc efective. I want to run a cam in the 23x range .600 3600 stall. 2) EPOXY 4runners? I assume they broke thru the casting? Theres no water jacket there right? Has anyone epoxied in this manner? Or should i steer clear? Thanks ALOT!

I would steer clear...Epoxy in the runners tells me they cut too much metal out and hit water jackets. Pay the $$ for some quality heads from AFR, TSP etc..

You will wish you didn't go cheap. There are many CNC ported heads out there. I constantly see members here selling ported 243 for $800-$1000

250cc from a 243 head? Did someone try and turn it into a L92 head?

Did someone report LPE heads or something?

Aren't the GM CNC'd 243s listed at 250 cc runners ???
I wonder if some "hot rodder" tried to open it up more..bigger IS better right ?

It's possible that these may be a RND head that someone wants to sell. The flow numbers look really good, and the say the heads were on an 05' vette for 3 years with no performance problems.

LPE heads have always been 250cc. The GMPP heads that they list are CNC'd by LPE. They perform well, but PRC/Ai/TFS/AFR are better IMO.

I am a bit new to the S side of things and seeing what other shops open 243s up to 250cc just sounds huge but if that is standard for LPE it can't be bad. LPE has always been good, they tend to be among the first to get good results from a new platform but then fall by the wayside as more shops get their hands on stuff. Point being if they are LPE they are likely good but not great.

I understand wanting to save a buck, but heads are an item that is so critical I would think things through carefully.

That's pretty much it. The LPEs do well with a smaller cam to offset the large runners. That's why LPE usually pairs their head/cam or 383 stroker combinations with very small cams. One is to retain drivabillity (and warranty) and two is the heads. They flow very well and don't need a ton of cam to make power. But the tip-in and throttle response can't be all that great compared to an AFR or TFS head.

Great, thanks for the responses guys. They say that these heads are usually 2 grand fully loaded. Now if i canpick them up for a good price, im still thinking about that...still have some time. But everyone is skipping over the fact that 4 intake runners have to be epoxied!! Hmmm anyone give advice on what or how to do this? I am very mcgiver like so it shouldnt be a problem! Anyone done it? Results? Damn those flow numbers look awesom. 304@.600...212@.600 ......311@.650........222@650. My ls would scoot prety good toward my goal of 11.5 sec!!

If you get them I'd be looking to have them welded before any epoxy

What's the midlift numbers? That's what'll make HP and the car fast... not flow at the top of the lift.

FWIW, TFS 215s flow 272 at .400", 308 at .500" and 324 at .600". Those are pretty much the best numbers you can get out of a 3.9" bore so compare to those.
