LS 408CI IRON STREET SERIES PERFORMANCE SHORTBLOCK
I was wondering how much power these short blocks are rated for. I need something to safely hold 800rwhp.
Their response:

Happy New Year!

Thank you for your interest in our products!

The Pro Series has a race prepped block, coated pistons (tops and skirts), coated bearings, and main studs. The street series has non-coated pistons and bearings with OEM hardware.

We've had customers push these past 800 RWHP, but if I knew that was my goal for HP and the budget allows, I would rather have the studs and coated parts.

Told ya. The advertised prices always seem great, just like cylinder heads. Then add in all those little costs like bearings, coating, springs valves etc that kinda **** adds up REALLY fast.

I scored my 408 shortblock for less than $1000 its not assembled, but the machine work was already done and all the parts were brand new still in the box.

Seems to me that you are comparing apples to oranges here.

When people start shopping they always want the low price hook, but yeah most folks are going to want to add some upgrades, then you start adding up hardware, gaskets etc. even if you already have heads and intake and the price starts to climb fast. This is in no way a complaint against vendors, it is the customers who rarely understand what the true cost of engines is.

The short block sounds like it's right up my ally for what I'm looking for as main studs and a race prepped block are not necessary for my 475rwhp street machine. I completely understand I am going to spend another $1,500 in gaskets, head bolts and other miscellaneous hardware. The short block is a great price for what it is not to mention I can pick it up rather than paying fro shipping...

If you're only looking for a 475rwhp street machine, then your money could be better spent on heads/cam/intake on your stock cube LS.

Sorry to hear that. I guess that gives you a reason to upgrade to a 408 though. Good luck with it. One day I will go with either a 408, 427 or 454. But for now, it's stock cubes for me.

yep- start with the lunch special, move on to the necessary lap dance, then all of a sudden you're in the Emporer's room watching her add on's bounce and wondering how to explain the ATM withdrawal to your wife. Those add on's add up fast.

We designed our "Street Series" Shortblock to be budget friendly to customers that aren't seeking an all out bullet proof race engine. A lot of people tend to overbuild their engines for the kind of power they are going to make, and there is nothing wrong with that IF money is no object.

If you want to run a 408 N/A and make 450-550HP, the SS is perfect. Say you get bored with that after a while and you want to add a reasonable (150-200HP) amount of nitrous, no problem.

If your content with running 600-700rwhp in a boosted engine then it would also work for turbo/blower. I'm sure you could push it much MUCH harder then that on good fuel and a good tune, but this is what we would consider a reliable power level for the internal components.

In the end it really comes down to your budget and goals. Please let me know if you have anymore questions.

Thank you,

Chad @ Livernois Motorsports
