Default LQ4 Cam options

Hey guys, I need help narrowing down what camshaft I should get for my lq4 build.
-Stock lq4 rebuild with ARP hardware
-243 heads
-Truck intake
-Longtube headers
-built 200-4r auto with close to stock stall

The car its going in is a cruiser/beater and wont be raced very much.
I would like lots of mid-low end power
My machine shop reccomended the Lingenfelter gt1-1 (229/242 .631/.631)
I was thinking of going with the tsp 228r (228/228 .588"/.588")
or the Texas Speed Torquer V2 (232/234 .595"/.598")
Any others I should consider?
I would like to be able to use the stock retainers with beehive valvesprings (brands?)
thanks for any input.

The close to stock stall isn't going to cut it, not with any of those cams. I'd go at least with a 3200 with the 228/228 and 3600 for the other two cams. If you're really set on sticking with the truck intake and close to stock stall then you need to go a lot smaller.
Here's a couple of cams that should work good.

For beehive valve springs the PAC 1211X would be good.

I am stuck on using the truck intake, but I will make a torque converter change if needed. Would you recommend a different cam if I get a higher stall convertor? Thanks for our input!

Stall > cam

You can drive a stalled car with stock cam, no problem. Don't do it the other way around. If you have money for one or the other, you will be much happier with the stall.

Got a comp xer281hr-12, which is pretty much the torquer 2 cam. This has a sweet idle and tons of power on my 6.0l with 317 heads. 243 will boost comp and give you more compression.

YES, with a stall within this range 3200-3600 stall.
FYI if you going to stick with the stock rockers try keep the lift in the low.6XX" or lower.

Take a look at the following :
Futral
FMS-F6, 226"/230" .575"/.595" 114LSA
FMS-F11, 228"/230" .576"/.595" 112LSA
FMS-F13, 230"/232" .595"/.585" 112LSA

Tick Performance SNS torqueMAX Stage 2
http://www.tickperformance.com/tick-...1-ls6-engines/
Comp Cams #54-446-11 as stated above by onefast84. This is the largest I would recommend for your application.
http://www.ws6project.com/user_stor/...-xe-r-232-234/
Lunati Voodoo, #20540714
http://www.ws6project.com/user_stor/...oducts_id=4629
Crane Z-series #1449601
http://www.ws6project.com/user_stor/...28-232-112lsa/

Then you can always go with a custom grind

Thanks guys for the recommendations, I've got some reading to do.
I do plan on using stock lifters and stock rocker arms.

-also where would you guys recommend getting a torque convertor from for the 200-4r? (should I start a new thread in the transmission section for this?)

The 228r or the v2 would be a nice cam for your setup. I would recommend going with a double valve spring with either of these cams though. Brian Tooley has awesome spring kits for a very reasonable price.

What is the advantage of a double valve spring over a beehive?

Did some research and I found out my converter is a D5 converter, which has a stall of about 2200-2400rpm behind a turbo v6. (not sure what it would stall @ on my lq4 ?) I would like to use this convertor if possible to save money. Sorry for changing my mind so much.
- what cam(s) would be good with this converter?
- again its for a street beater that may see a few track passes eventually

yikes that stall is going to be a step backwards for what you are trying to build.maybe look at a 220r-224r....and this might be even pushing it.i agree with others to stall up regardless.

Ok I will try to find a stall converter, The one I was looking at was a non lock up unit, not really what I want cause I cruise lots at highway speed. Any recommendataions on a cheaper lockup converter?

My sns stage 1 torque max would work with that tight of a stall, but it wouldn't be ideal by any means.
