Default waking up an ls1

So I bought an ls1 with 12k miles out of a 2000 camaro from my dad. Problem is its sat for several years. Its going in a 1953 chevy truck with a 4l60 and 3.70 gears. Its going to be driven on the street but will see some track time. What injectors do I need, should I replace the oil pump and is there anything else I should check?

If is a legitimate 12k motor, drop it in. If you're wanting to hotrod it, do it before you drop it in.

When I have"woken up" boat engines after sitting for a while, we always took out the plugs, put a little marvel mystery oil in and cranked by hand a few rotations. Rings can set against the wall pretty good if the engine was not properly stored. Condensation can still build and cause a little surface oxidation within the block. Change all the fluids and such and you should be good.

do this ^^^.the current injectors are fine.are you using a ECM ?consider a ls6 intake ,or a truck intake.consider a cam swap while the engine is out .what rpm is the converter ?check Texas speed or thunder racing for cam pkgs.

Basically done the same thing with old tractor engines. We've used ATF but the idea is the same. Put some into the spark plug hole and roll the motor over a bit. Biggest concern is the rings being seized up from sitting for as long as it has. If its a true 12k mile motor then it's probably not run in 10 or so years. I would definitely put an oil pump in it. The 97-00 pumps are know to fail randomly so I would spend the $100 or so on a ls6 pump just to make sure. Nothing may happen but if it was mine I would at least do this. Other than that like others said put some good clean oil in it and fire her up. Maybe putting some seafoam or the like in the oil and in the tank might be helpful in getting it all cleaned up and going. The only other concern would be the fuel injectors but if you get it going and they aren't hardcore plugged the seafoam will probably take care of them.

Thank for the advice. It hasn't been started since 2002 and had sat in back of the garage since then. I hav e access to an ls6 intake for a little bit of nothing. I'll probably keep the internals stock to keep the fuel mileage up. The converter is stock (isnt that like 2500) along with the transmission. But then again upgrades may be in store for the future. But say I do end up beeding injectors what would you recommend?

The stock ls1 stall is a pitiful 1800. A 32-3600 stall would truly " wake up an ls1".

Look at your future goals and go from there. Stock injectors will work pretty good if your going to be running a stock or mild cam. If you plan to spray stock injectors will work AOK as long as it is a wet shot. Any boost you need to plan for now and really need to make a plan before that motor goes in anything.

Future upgrades would be a Tsp 228r cam, ported heads, ls6 intake, 90 or 92mm throttle body and a 3000 stall converter. All that mixed with 3.70 gears and a 4000 lb truck it should be enough to get me into quite a bit of trouble.
