I took the easy way out and bought AFR's for my LS1, But I have the stock 853 in the garage. I should play with them some day.

Glad you enjoyed it. Those quad heads flow! geez! Good luck on playing with the 853's. its fun

Thanks! I've been considering 2.02's as well. You'll get better flow with them for sure. I dont know how much more it'd improve with a boosted application. It seems Boost usaully makes flow detail not as critical.

Yes, they're very close to the same. It'll be the same idea.

I feel that I should also give more detail on these heads just to be clear. They are 862 5.3 heads home ported, milled .030" and I used 2" LS1 valves. The engine is a 2000 and has 165k miles on it. Bore didnt have much cross hatch. Bout polished. lol dished piston equals to about 9.9:1 compression.

I think the heads would show a lot more with a larger cam that could use the flow.

Anyone have any info on a stock ls6 vs a home ported Ls1? Seems it would favor the Ls1 being a smaller port even ported and flowing slightly more intake and a good bit more exhaust. I know the combustion chamber in the ls6 is better but would think that has more to do with mpg/timing than raw power.

Thanks man! 4.8's are great to. I'm building another 5.3 for when this one wears out. I'm using a 4.8 for its flat top pistons. Just swapping the crank and rods for 5.3 ones. With these heads it should get me to about 10.5:1.

Good luck on the build.

I've got flow numbers on stock LS6 heads vs my home ported heads in the first post if thats what you mean.

I also have pics of stock LS6 and stock LS1 head ports cut in half so that you can see the port shape.

Honestly peak power is something that sellers use on the intrawebz to get people to buy. I think power across the whole range and under the curve is what matters since that is what you feel when you drive.

In a recent issue of GM High Tech there is a article on hand porting LS heads. In this article they do a 2* degree cant to the right on the intake port. Has anyone does this ?

Just read it. I believe that 2* they're talking about was a complicated way of saying that they did that to port match.

From what I understand its a way to gently direct that column of air not just through the bowl and valve but on through the chamber and down the cylinder. I havent read the article yet, but this seems common on just about any inline 2 valve arrangement. Will read the article eventually...

And to agearheadlife- great info and its awesome somebody took the time to do this! Im no expert but somebody might have said this but ive also been told you do not want to slow the velocity of the air down by porting to flow more cfm. And the gmhtp article is a perfect guide!
