At that weight you won't NEED a 383 but as far as driveability goes the extra cubes won't hurt. You will just need to get your 60ft dialed in.

My 383 ran a 7.26 in the 1/8th with an LS6 intake and stock 243 heads and being full weight. Get some cnc ported 243s, an LS6 intake or used fast 90, and a 3600-4000 stall and have fun getting kicked out unless you have saftey equipment

check out a TSP ls 383 rotating assembly.first have your block checked out by a good engine builder before you buy any thing.whats your budget ?consider using some 243/799 heads.consider buying heads already ported by a vendor ,saves alot on shipping cost.you will need a 3500+rpm stall converter.

My boy has a 383ci and made 503hp 470tq. he has the aftermarket heads that i believe you said too much money for little performance. You don't know this game son. I had cnc heads by some of the best on here and with only a afr head swap gained 4 tenths. My last heads were cnc heads, running 10.9 and went to trick flow. the heads even lowered my compression some. with only a head swap I went 10.5. my car is 3,700lbs with me in it. i have heat, leather, stero, back seats, air bags. a real street car. I get if you don't have the funds for heads, they do cost. however, they are worth it. My boys 383 is a 10sec car n/a. it also has heat, air, back seats, ect.

It is only about $400 more for a texas speed 402 over a texas speed 383. Plus you can sell your current LS1 to recoup the funds. A 402 ls2 opens up some nice options in terms of heads you can run.
