Do you know what the story is behind the 3.77" cranks. I bought a shortblock based on one and am curious. I was told that it was a Lunati forged crank that was ordered by GM and then never used.

I believe they were of Lunati manufacture. I only found one running car with this custom stroker and I am not clear on the story, but they did order a bunch of 3.778 forged cranks for special projects.

what problems have you heard about offset cranks? TSP put down INSANE numbers NA and especially on the juice with that "weak" crank.
This has been brought up numerous times...show me someone who ahs broken a crank.
FYI stock cranks go for $200-250 ALL day on here and eBay, and when your are all done with an Eagle crank it's a lot more than $1000, and will anyone ever trust them afetr the initial fiasco?

There is always the $1200 Callies Racemaster. Good crank.

The stock crank is fine. I just don't see the point in spending time and energy into an offset ground stock crank when you aren't very far from a $1200 Callies. You're talking about $800. Most guys spend that on far more foolish things than a good crankshaft.

Thanks for clarifying exactly what the stroke is. Speed Inc. put the shortblock together for me and I couldn't get them to measure exactly what the stroke is. I should have it soon. I am just waiting for them to ship it.

Huh??? Sorry, just seems silly to me. I would never let anyone assemble an engine that could not/would not tell me the stroke.

I had alrady paid for everything. I bought it from another forum member and the parts were already at Speed Inc. I asked Speed Inc (on 4 separate occasions) to measure the stroke for me so that I could verify that it was the 3.77" that the seller told me.

Let us know how it performs when it is done. This is somewhat of unchartered teritory and I'm curious as to how these offset strokers fare Vs the others.

Can stock rods and pistons be used when offset grinding the crank, or do you have to change rod length?

Piston needs to be changed, you should increase the rod length if you can.

There was another shop offset cutting cranks, goes by "Hank the Crank". Good article in the Chevy Hi Performance rag last month I think. Article goes under "LS1 bottom end for less" or something along this line.
The 366 they ended up with had a CR of 13:1 and put down some amazing numbers. No mention of potential issues but hey, at least there are some options.

Guys I have an unassembled shortblock, using some real nice pieces. It is a stock crank that has been offset ground to a 3.776" stroke and has been ion nitrided and also cryo treated, that is about as strong as you can make the stock crank. Also, I have a beautiful set of like new lightweight Carrillo H-beam rods and brand new lightweight Lunati forged pistons (-11cc dish) with bearing and rings, it's ready to put together if anyone is interested, that thing should turn some serious RPM with the lightweight rotating assembly and high quality parts. I have a LS1 block that has been honed for the pistons and ready to go. It's a 362 cube setup. I need $2,500 for everything and I can be reached at indacalinc@sbcglobal.net Thanks Dave

Since this thread has been brought back from the dead I'd like to asks a few quesions. Anyone have some long term durability tests yet? I notice this has been close to 3.75 years now. You'd have to change pistons. I don't know of anyone that makes a set up for a 3.77 stroke in a LS1. Were forged cranks really so expensive for LS1s back in the day?

If i use a 6.0 iron block and an offset ground crank what rods and pistons?? What is the rod jornal diam. how much do they cut? Honda rods??? custom pistons?? Sombody let me know some info....
