Are factory installed engines tied to the VIN by a serial number?

Do blocks match the heads as well with a serial number?

The 8th digit in you vin code is your engine code and it has noting to do with block or head #.

Thanks. Do blocks and heads have matching numbers if orginally assembled together as part of the same engine?
