Sounds like a bird in my engine bay
Hi guys,
About 2 months ago I started noticing a funny sound that sounds like a bird on the drivers side on my engine. It goes "chirp" with the engine RPM, but no noticeable power loss.
Thinks it's a rocker, or a pushrod or possible an exhaust leak??
Anyone heard of this before? I can get sound clip if needed.
Thanks.

Honestly Sommers it sounds like a lifter tick when I heard it. Pull valve cover and check all rockers/push rods. Cycle engine and check all lfters when valve is closed. When I lost the lifter in my SS one of my push rods were silver on the end. There was no real noticeable power loss until the car fell flat on its face racing Lee and the lifter exploded. I wrote it off as an exhaust leak(which I did have..)

What's the frequency of this chirp? You said it goes along with the rpm is it like a constant chip, so it would really be a squeal? Or is it once every few seconds?
What are the mods and particular mileage on these mods?

I actually heard this for the first time recently on my friends 6.0 I thought it might of been cam bearings. I'm used to rods knocking when bearings spin.
Sommers easy way to check if its an exhaust leak, harder for an auto but get on freeway or something next to a wall. And give it gas but not enough that it down shifts. If tick stays with rpms its engine. If it gets louder/faster its exhaust.

Thats an exhaust leak. Had the same exact sound when my header gasket went to crap. When I went to replace it I could see black soot marks on/around the header and head where it was leaking.

It all sounds the same. Bearings cause a sustainer squeal. Easiest way to rule out belt is to run it without one. Or just spray water on the grooved side of the belt to lubricate/alleviate tension on the serpentine setup. If it doesn't come back while the belt is lubricated (couple squirts from water bottle should last 10 secs until it evaporates) then you know it's a belt issue.
