Need help with cam selection. Please help!
I am anout to put a cam in my 98 A4 ta. I am going to keep the stock stall and I am going to change to 3.42 gears. Here are my requirements:
1.I want to know that I have a cam. I want there to be a lope.
2.The car must remain a daily driver(I drive it every day)
With the cam that you suggest tell me if I will need to replace springs and if it will need tuning. Thanks for all the help guys.

231/237 won't even come close to passing smog. Too much duration. It will be misfiring or "loping" at idle far too much to pass smog.
BTW, ditch the descreened and ported MAF if you're going to do this. All you've done is screw up a calibrated sensor.
As far as big/small cam goes, I'm not getting into the argument.
Most know my opinion.

115 vs 114 is basically irrelevant in the power department. As long as you're a 114+, it should pass with GOOD tuning. Keep in mind that most people and shops are not good tuners. Satisfactory, but not what I would call good. Tuning for power and emissions is a specialized field.

Man if I were you I'd ditch the factory converter and get a stall converter. Gonna be more noticeable than a cam. I'd say go with a 220 cam if your gonna keep the factory converter. Maybe even a LS6 cam setup.
Hey I had a lunati cam in mind. Let me know what yall think about this. 55003LUN. Go to www.lunaticams.com and look that up. Now that I think about it, when I get my car inspected they don't put anything in my tailpipes. All they do is plug something into the plug under the steering wheel. Is that still the smog test? The main thing I want in this cam besides power is a lope at idle. Thanks for all the help.
I wouldn't go any bigger than 224/224 on a 114 LSA if you need
to pass the sniffer. This with tuning will easily pass. You'll
definately wanna upgrade to a bigger converter as well. For a
daily driver, I'd say 3200-3800 tops. There are people driving on
4200+, but I personally wouldn't.

spend the extra few hundred dollars and get a converter otherwise you'll likely be slower than stock with most of the cams I've seen recommended...honestly with 2.73 gears it would take you forever to get into a 231/237's powerband 4000rpms+...even the smaller 224 cams dont make peak tq till 4500-5000rpms so in my personal opinion get the vert & the cam at the same time otherwise you'll be looking at the same timeslips as you did before if not worse depending on how big you actually go. If you just want the lope pull one of your plug wires
