I just pulled my motor and tranny a couple nights ago. I left motor on the k member and lowered tranny onto a creeper. I didn't use my cherry picker at all, I just lowered the k with a jack and then pulled the whole thing out.

Out the bottom no doubt. I did it in my driveway last year for the first time and got it out in a weekend taking my time.

If You pull it out the top , You can have the engine/tranny out and the engine on a stand from start to finish in from anywhere 4 hours to 8hours depending on You're experience .

Yup.. Never did it from the bottom though if I had a lift that's the obvious route to take. I did pull from the top twice, pretty straightforward with the hood off the car.

I have a lift and did it out the bottom. Its great to have it all out and wire it up, put the headers on, tranny, almost everything then drop the car on top. It makes it so everything is right in front of you while install everything.

Bottom, just like sweet98ss said, very awesome to assemble everything outside the car and just drop the car over it and go. I put the front tires under the rear tires for stabilty, and use a engine hoist to lift the car high enough to put on the real tall jacks from harbor freight, put a metal table with wheels from harbor freight under the kmember and trans then unbolt the kmember and roll it out sideways.

I have two big jack stands (you can see them in the top of the second pic) on the frame behind the front tires holding the car up. You don't have to pull the intake/heads to remove the motor, I did when I was trying to find out what messed up in the motor when I had a valve break.

Once I get the motor & tranny seperated and off the k member, I normally roll the empty k-member back under the car and install the 6 bolts and struts so I can roll the car around if I need to.

Why does everyone unbolt the struts from the top i always undo the bottom bolts and leave the struts on the body.

If u want to just get to the oil pan u could use the engine hoist to hold the motor in place and unbolt the six frame bolts and just drop the k member. Then u could remove the oil pan no problem, right? Or am i missing something here? But to pull the motor i have done both top and botom... I prefer topside!!!!
