Default LS1 w/ TR224

I just put a Ls1 in my 57 pickup. I had it dyno tuned. Dual rate springs and chromoly push rods are the only mods to the motor. 311HP at the rear wheels. 4l60e trans w/ 3.70 gears. Dyno shop told me that cam was doing more harm then good as far as horse power goes. Any suggestions?

Just going off of what you've said, I'd find another shop/tuner. a 224 cam would wake that LS1 up!

You are right on the money, My stock 02 made 312rwhp. Lots of stuff you can do. Buy all of the bolt on's and make about 345rwhp, add heads cam and intake and make 450 to 475Rwhp. I spent thousands to make 150HP more than stock. If I had it to do over. I think that I would leave it stock and spray 200Hp of giggle juice and make 500HP to the rear tire and spend 5 to 6 hundred bucks. and call it a day.

Wait, do you have the 224 in there now? I read dual springs and pushrods where the only mods? If you have the have the 224 cam you should be close to 350-360rwhp.

I think you should be putting down a little more power. How big is that air filter you have there? Also, what type of manifolds are you running? Is your throttle body opening up all the way?

people have made decent power with the little 224 cams.......seems you are at least 40-50 rwhp low....just trying to think of what other things might be robbing you, the first thing that i would check in a vehicle that old is the rearend......is it possible that it needs attention?....old bearings maybe?......does it make any noise?........drum brakes, are they ok?.....can you spin the wheels freely when it's jacked up?......also, do you have heavy wheels back there?.....

EDIT: i just saw where you had 3:70 gears, so i'm guessing you probably freshened up the rear

What shop did you take it to? Anyone that tells you that a 224 cam is doing more harm that good is questionable at best. Are you shure thats what they said?

I read it wrong too. He has the 224 cam and the shop said he'd be doing more harm than good by going to something bigger. I wouldn't say more harm than good, but the 224 is a nice streetable cam from what I've researched. I'm wanting the El toro cam for my z06, which is a bigger street cam.

The air filter isn't to big..... I am working on something that flows better. Running Sanderson shorty headers. Throttle body opens fine.

cool.....how many miles on the motor before the cam went in?.....did you degree the cam or go dot-to-dot?.....did you measure for correct pushrod length?

i can't wait to do a project like this, '57 pickups look sweet lowered just a little with the right wheels and tires

CBM. I thought so, that chris is so full of himself. They do know what they are doing, but it seems like guys like us are a waste of there time. I spent my $450.00 and am not totaly happy. One thing you do have to realize is they use a Mustang dyno and it doesnt dyno as high as a dynojet.

Never got one. It was more of a tune to smooth it out. Didn't want to stay running and a jumpy idle.

His dyono reads 10-15 hp lower than a dynojet, and he seems to leave them rich. Do yourself a favor and get a A/F gage.
