Default Ebay Motor City 243/799 heads

Has anyone on here bought and installed a set of those 243/799 heads that are from "motor city" on ebay? the 799s are $350 for a pair and 243s are $400 for a pair, which is pretty good. They always have them in stock somehow, and I they all say symmetrical port... I thought LS1 heads are cathedral port... Are they worth getting?

I dont have experience with buying through them but they do always have auctions for 799/243s.. Have you checked their feedback? Thats one thing I havent done because Im not quite ready to pull the trigger but they have good prices. Always off of unknown vehicles with unknown milegage though. Might have better luck/a safer experience buying off a forum.

Most of the heads also usually list a broken off head bolt in there. Who knows what other kind of damage awaits... But the prices are good.

I've bought two sets of heads from them. The first set was a set of 821 casting ls3 heads. They were listed as great condition. I got them and one if the combustion chambers was all beat up and had bent valves. I sent it back and they sent me one with a scar right where the head gasket would need to seal. I just said **** it, if I end up using them, I'll get them milled. Didn't end up using them. I tried them again a few months ago, bought a set of 799 heads. Same story, there is a scar right where the head gasket would seal the cylinder. This sucks, because I need them for an lq4, and dont live near a machine shop who can do a fine finish mill job that's required for the mls gaskets. Lucky I have an l33 sitting on the shop floor that I can steal the 799's off of. The motor city heads will have to be milled and checked out and put on the l33 at a later date. So in short, I don't recommend buying from them unless you are very patient, or plan in milling the heads.

And no, none of this would have happened in shipping, they bubble wrap the **** outta everything and pack everything in the box tight with newspaper.
