Many factors to consider regarding piston to valve clearance, like duration of the cam and overlap. Some 5.3 motors already have dished pistons. Before recommending a cam, what is this going to be used for, what are your performance goals, manual or auto trans? If auto, what stall converter? Ect., ect., etc...

I was thinking in a range of .228 --.232 duration with .560-.580 range lift on a 110 lobe seperation. This is going in a very nice 1962 Impala with a Muncie 4 speed. .336 posi rear gear ratio. The bottom end is to remain stock. It does not have dished pistons. Also using the coil on plug with an Elderbock 4 barrel--- looking for 350 HP. Slight lumpy idle but WILL NOT be a RACE car. Just sold a 9 sec. TR. All replys welcome.---Lee

You should have plenty of ptv clearance with a cam like that. It will sound good too.

Stock heads too? You should have no problem with a cam that size.

Tick has a good cam called the SNS 2... 227/235 .614"/.617" 110+3. It would work well in your application and make a ton of torque in the 5.3L.

Or, if you wanted to go a little bigger, a variation of the cam I'm running, an EPS 230/234 .600"/.612" 110+2 would also be nice. You can run it with beehive springs too as it has endurance lobes designed to not beat up the valvetrain. It's pretty close to what you were thinking.
