Default Minimum HP and mods required to knock off most 03/04 cobras?

When I ordered my m6 z in 99' I was attracted to the performance of the fbody and the bang for the buck. At the time the fbody was king. Now that ford has decided to raise the bar with a supercharger, the fbody has real competition.

I have added mods slowly over the years, knowing that new products would be introduced over time.

My 99 car has 23000miles and produces 353hp(while hitting the 115mph speed limiter) at the moment- asp, shaner tb, lid, tts headers, predator, ignition stuff, y pipe, borla, ftra, suspension, grip, blah, blah

I have seen some videos of the new cobra and they are pretty powerful.
At the moment I have over a grand to spend and I want to get the best bang for the buck. I am thinking about the tsp 231 cam and spring, rod upgrades or I could save more and get a PP head/TSP cam kit. Later on I could add a new intake and maybe some spray.

What is required to compete with the average cobra 03/04?

there was a guy selling a G5X2 a couple of days ago in the classified section, Id check on that. Or you could just go with a 150 shot of the juice and be able to play with vipers.

Your Z28 shouldn't have a 115mph limiter if it's a M6. I thought ALL M6s had no speed limiter since they(M6) ALL have 3.42s. If you can drive really well you should be able to hang with most stock 03-04 snakes. Nitrous alone will smoke a stock snake. You better watch breaking the shitty 10 bolt though; that is your REAL enemy, not the Cobra!

I believe you get the limiter if you don't have the z rated tires and alum. ds from the factory.

I'd go with the 231/237, and a 100 shot of n2o.

When I bought the z, I was not sure if I would be driving it year round, so I got 16's with the car. I ended up only driving it during the summer months.I now have 17's and nittos. Last spring I ordered a custom tune that deleted the speed limiter.

I'd put an LS6 intake and the cam of your choice. Even a little cam like the 216/220 would make you a snake killer. The ever popular TR224 would definately kill a snake.

The stock 10 bolt is the enemy but so is the Irs in the cobra

Cobras are heavy but driven well can run fast for cheap mods. Nos with a 100 shot and Nittos can take most modded Snakes. I did it with 400 rwhp to a good drivers 440 rwhp snake

The 03's are tough bitches to tackle. For a little over $ 1K you can have 450rwhp easily. Bone stock they tend to make 360-390rwhp with equal torque. Add a CAI @ Catback and most will dyno around 400-420rwhp. Add a smaller blower pulley and 44-480rwhp depending on pulley size. However they are heavier with the coupes being 250-300lbs @ Verts 350-400lbs heavier than a comparable Fbody, meaning they usually have to have 20+ rwhp to pull a similiar power number LS1.

When I was making 366rwhp @ 351 rwtq I was 1-1 with a 03 with a CAI making 387rwhp. We were so close it came down to who got the better jump. I was able to pull a 1/2 car to middle of 4th gear.

Now with my current power level I pulled a bone stock 03 by 4 cars from 60-130 from a roll.

When i had the TR 224, Hooker Headers/Catback, ASP and a lid, i would pull stock 03 cobras. If the cobra had CAI, Catback and a smaller pulley, i needed my nittos to pull him at the track from the hole shot. However, i would get slowly walked by lightly modded ones on the street. Id look at an LS6 intake for 10 RWHP and a cam no smaller then 224/224. I didnt have an LS6 intake with my cam only set up.

When I had my H/C 348ci setup I had no problem laying the smack down on 03 Cobras from a 0 to 130mph sprint. The 03 Cobras I am talking about were pulleyed and they were shocked that a H/C LS1 could beat them.

all of the ls1 camaro or bird bodies have a rev limiter at 6200 from the factory...and a speed limiter at 155mph(which can be removed with many reprogrammers....

get any cam in the 224 and larger ranges...with a pretty healthy lift.... and a good set of performance heads...do the other bolt ons...exhaust-lid-intake-pulley
you will have no problems....

and as long as you dont put on slicks....you wont break your stock rear...also dont put on nitto's and get them hot enough to really really stick....

and being all motor...you'll smoke the spray guys too...

I have found that the majority of 03-04 SNAKE owners are first time performance owners. I see a lot of older guys driving them and they don't race often or they are really young kids that think racing is just stomping the gas and yanking the shifter. At least in my local area theres only a couple out there that can actually DRIVE. When it comes to a stick-shift car...it's ALL about the driver! Skill can often beat power, unless the power level of the other car is a lot higher.

A stock Z06 with a tire and decent driver will maul a Cobra.I've tried to get 3 different stock Cobra's to run me at the track but they wouldn't.

doesn't the z06 have more power than a cobra. So even with out tires and a not so good driver the zo6 will take the cobra. any day
