Default Head Gasket .040 thickness???

Is there any other brand other than cometic that sell .040 thick compressed head gaskets??

This is for a 2002 T/A ws6 Stock bore...

Thanks for any input.

heres those fel pros you were looking at

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/fel-1041

a lot of people run the fel pro version vs the cometics because they are cheaper and with cometics you have to have a very clean surface for them to seal properly... these will seal like the GM ones

Head chamber will usually dictate the gasket bore. I am running AFR heads with unshrouded intake valves. I am using a 4.160" Cometic. Check the width of you chambers before ordering as you don't want the gasket hanging into the chamber.

Wrong. The cometic MLS are nothing like the solid copper cometics. I've reused mine 3 times now, spray em out with parts cleaner, some orange tack spray, and reinstall. Cometic MLS are the best gaskets made for the ls.

Also, the above poster kind of iterated it, but put plainly, oversize (bore) gaskets are not an issue at all, they will seal just the same.

Hmm didn't know they had solid copper cometics, ok then the mls cometics were what I used years ago then.. I went overboard on getting the surfaces clean anyway...

Out of the box the cometics like a 30 ra or something like that finish to get a good seal... The fel pros can seal at 60 ra and it has a sealer already applied to the gasket.

So I wasn't wrong dietcoke, where did I say copper gaskets anywhere?

It was implied. The cometics seal as good as the felpros do, they also have sealer applied to them. Unlike the felpros, however, you can reuse them numerous times, and all it takes is a thourough cleaning and basic prep of the surface (i like a 3m pad on drill) and some fresh sealer (3m or permatex copper spray)

Anything is going to leak on a shitty surface. @ the OP, try my facebook group. Its a little over 400 strong, we have weekly meets on saturday nights.

Fel pros will seal on a slightly dirtier surface than cometics will in my experience..

A lot of people install dry per instructions but on mine I had a tiny coolant leak with cometics..

I would copper spray for insurance, even on my ls9 gaskets I'm using copper spray

Also i measured combustion chamber width and it measured 3.970 ish.. So i should go with either the cometic 3.970" gaskets or should i just go to the next level which is 4.060" gaskets??

Thanks for all input.

Get the 4.06 gaskets, light coat of copper spray on both sides of gasket, and install when tacky. Deck should be clean.
