cam and springs question, help please
cam and springs question, help please I bought an used cam that I was told that was a hot cam but the cam only reads on one side: 267a; nothing else; which cam (company and especifications) it is? Also got some springs that are like bronce color, single type, with like pink color line across it; again: which springs are these and the espicifications)? Help please!!!
I believe that is actually a GM ASA cam, same lift , but more duration than a GM hotcam.. Specs are 226/236 .525/.525 on 110 lsa.. You could have a machine shop measure it to make sure. I have no idea on the springs, but I would not chance it. You can get a new set of LS6 springs for less than 100 bucks...

ASA "American Speed Association" is a short track racing series, back in 2000 the LS1 was the spec motor for that series and the ASA cam was the spec cam allowed..in summary the cam was ideal for short circle tracks.

I saw the voodoo cam come up in search results as well, though ASA seemed to be the most prominent result returned. Honestly I would have it measured by a machine shop or send it futral/and or cam motion and have them put it on the cam doctor to verify specs. Its definitely not a hot cam, had that grind in my 99 formula and that had a gm part# on it.

its an old design, but quite a few guys had success with it back in the day, fine for street and strip. The ASA will need a tune, but will drive just fine once tuned. Should make decent power low/mid-range, don't expect a big peak number out of it though. If you don't have a lot invested in it, would probably talk to a supporting vendor about what goals you have in mind and let them spec you a cam....but if you really are on a budget, its a decent stick, sounds nasty and will not beat up the valve train.
