Question LS1 to LS6 PCV conversion

Going to order the LS6 valley cover through SDPC, any other parts that I need?
If so, what are the part numbers? This cover will still be used with an LS1 intake.

You can look in my build thread for what is needed. One can get all the parts needed for $95 out the door from another place...

Parts list: valve cover plug (12568011), valley cover to intake hose (12594779) and valley cover with built in PCV - aka: 2004 LS6 PCV (12577927)

The Valve cover plug, are 2 in the bag or just 1?

Just to add to this and try to get confirmation... which blocks require grinding to get the Valley Cover to fit? I know my aluminum '98 required grinding. Anybody else care to chime in?

1998-2000 I believe, I have a 2000. 01 and 02 came with the LS6 intake manifold so that may explain the difference.

ALL LS1 blocks require the cutting. It's really not a big deal -- just be sure to have everything covered up so as not to get metal dust/shavings in the valley -- or all over the engine bay!

I would also highly suggest new manifold gaskets (my preference is ACDelco, but I was in a pinch and picked up Fel-Pro from Advanced when I was in the middle of doing this mod).

Thanks for the pm demonspeed. This was the last of the parts that I needed. And yes you need new manifold gaskets, I got the fel-pro ones also.

No problem! That's why I started my build thread -- so I can help give back to this community which helped me a TON throughout the past decade.

you could turn out to be lucky like i was and get an LS6 block (if you have an '02 model), which does not require any cutting at all!

click me!

got the parts ordered, they should be here by Friday, and installed this coming weekend.

Are the ls1 and ls6 motors more likely to burning oil as opposed to a 4.8 truck motor?

The reason I ask, is I will be removing my 4.8 and installing a 5.7 ls1 shortblock with ls6 heads and intake and a custom cam. I currently dont have an issue with burning oil on my 4.8. My 5.7 block is at the machine shop right now, so Im thinking I should have him cut the block before it gets washed.

I guess my questions are:

Must you use this ls6 valley cover when using an ls6 intake?

If not, I assume I might suck more oil through the valve covers (ls1 pcv). Will a simple catch can suffice?

You don't need the LS6 valley cover to run an ls6 intake.

I might suck more oil through the LS1 PCV and yes you can also run a catch can to alleviate the problem.

IMO, you've got the engine apart, so now's the time to slap the LS6 pcv system on.

Not unnecessary. Since you have both, how much oil has been in the catch can?
