is this possible or need to lower the k member or just a PITA?

You can get them off in car. I installed mine. The back ones on the passenger side are tight. But they will come off. I installed them on my car.

You should have about a half inch between the stud and the deck. It's tight, but VERY do-able.

After you do it once. Theirs nothing to it. At that point youll know exactly what needs to be done. If theirs a next time. It'll go alot faster.
