Default alignment tool

getting ready to put oil pump and front cover on. dumb question but is there an alignment toolto align front cover and oil pump?

The pump yes. Car Shop Inc sells one for the pump

Covers can be done with a straight edge or the Kent Moore Tool but it is expensive.

is this alignment tool neccesary for cam install?? Last cam swap i did in 05' i dont think i did anything special for the cover and oil pump install..

I used a six inch metal rule graduated to 1/64" to set the cover in place and center it on the crank shaft. That is all the GM tool does anyhow. I don't like using the seal to do this because it will put a bias in the seal position.

Was going to cover loose till put balancer on thought that would center cover am I wrong

I put the front cover on loosely then the balancer, center the cover over the balancer and make sure the bottom of the cover is flush with the bottom of the block before you add the oil pan...
