That said I prob would not go any bigger with the cam its good where it is. Just thought you might like to hear from someone who has a 408.

It has taken me a while but I have my car driving like stock. Only thing different is the choppy idle. I can put it in 6th gear and lug it around at 1200 RPM with minimal cam surge/bucking.

What kind of fuel economy do you see? and how many rpms do you make power too?

Have not had it on the dyno yet. Rev limit is set to 7K. Car pulls hard all the way to it. I just installed a shift light, plan on shifting at 6500.

My car is not a DD so I have not really driven it normal to see gas mileage yet. I have tried but cant keep my foot out of it...LOL.

I was afraid my cam was going to be too big at first, but the combo of my proflo xt, 57cc heads and my 255/271 cam has even let me beat several sportbikes

So what do you think the oiling problem was. From reading it sounds like the pick up was way to low and starved oil. The out of round journal didn't help anything as well.

Im pretty certain the main cause was the pickup tube being to close to the bottom of the pan. It was so close i really couldnt get an accurate reading. Now i have about 1/4" which from what i read is right

I just wanted to do a follow up, The motor made 460whp and 440wtq, I tried to take it to the track, but it snapped the driveshaft. I daily drove it 90 miles to school and had no issues with the motor whatsoever. Over the winter I put a moser 9" in with 4.11 gears and soon ill be purchasing a driveshaft, then I will take it to the track and see what it runs.

I talked to Martin Tick a while back, and am still considering changing the cam out to see if I can get some more power out of it. Just havent decided If I want to devote the time and resources to that project yet.

Well it's been almost a year since I've made a post. As it turns out going to college really sucks away the racecar fund.

I haven't changed much, ran 11.87 at 123 at the track, launching at idle and still spinning. I couldn't get it to hook mostly due to my own ignorance in my suspension valving. This spring I'm planning to put ET Streets on, and actually use the proper suspension setup, I'm fairly confident I can pilot the car to 10.99 on the current build.

As far as the engine, it has given me no problems whatsoever.

This summer I hop to get an engineering internship which should improve cash flow and allow me to tinker with the motor some more. I would really like to change the cam and the heads, and inevitably add some GO juice.

That about wraps everything up. When I get the RTS skinnies on the front and finish polishing the car I am planning to take some nice pictures which I will probably ***** out everywhere lol.

I'm Sorry I never even noticed this comment (never got an email notification or anything). By now I'm sure you already figured out the issue, but what happened was when I spaced down the windage tray I moved the pickup to almost flush with the oil pan. When I tore it down I just looked up the spec for clearance (i think it was 3/8" but im not sure) and used a map torch to bend the pickup a bit so it would fit properly.

I have been looking to do a head swap for more power out my 408 build and it looks like im doing pretty good with some worked 243s and an g5xx cam. After doing the M9 4:11 rear Im at 508/496 at the whls. Was loking to go to an ls3 top end but im not seeing enough gains to justify the change. Anyone hv any numbers from thier 408 ls3 top end builds.

I have L92 heads and a fast 102, and im getting 460/440 but I really believe after talking to a couple of cam designers that my cam is really holding me back and not utilizing the volume of air those heads are able to move.

The main reason I went with the L92 setup is because I got the heads cheap with springs and needed an intake anyway.

Wow this thread is dead. Well that's cause I kinda got tired of the car and got busy with life. I graduated college, moved to a new state, and kinda got into Jeepin. And while I love offroading and don't plan to stop, I do miss driving my car. But with the spool and the tire package and the 6 point cage it just is more of a hassle than its worth most days to hop in and bring it to work.

So I am debating selling it, and buying some other spirited daily driver type car. Or cutting the door bars off, selling the wheels and tires, buying an actual differential, swapping some of my suspension out, giving the car a retune, and making it much more street friendly again.

Kinda looking for thoughts and opinions on if I should just sell it as a street/strip car, or do all the work to make it more streetable.

IF you really like the car, make it streetable! It's a nice looking car that I'm sure holds its own performance wise!
