Default Build plans. Tell me what u think or if in missing something!

Plan is to build this for my 95.
Car is a weekend warrior only. Stripped down pretty decent.

2006 lq4 short block
Hand ported 799s (unmilled)
Ls6 intake
Stock ported tb
Tick performance Sns torque max stage 3 kit
.41 head gasket
Ford green injectors
Long tubes
Either y pipe/muffler dump OR lm1 stright to the headers
T56
410 gears
Monster stage 2 clutch/flywheel
Tick master

What's your guess on power? Anything I'm missing that I should do while I'm there? This is a slow moving project but the chassis should be ready for the motor in a few weeks (as soon as I get to working in it again)

Thanks for your opinions!

Should be a fun car although I would MAKE SURE to measure valve clearance, I had a buddy do a similar build and he didn't measure and put the vales through the pistons...

I would think 400hp at the wheels for sure if not a little more..

I ran a 238/242 cam in my 346 and when I pulled the heads to port them there were marks on every piston from where the valves just kissed the pistons a few times...I got very lucky and didn't break or bend anything...measure measure measure

O ya I plan to check it and make sure. Martin at tick sounded pretty confident it would clear no problems so that gives me hope lol. Never hurts to check to be sure tho, cuz I'm not planning on a bottom end build any time soon!

Low 400's should be no problem for that setup

Well bought a stock 2000 z28 so the plan is to put this motor in it now but instead of a using a t56 keeping the car auto with a yank ss3600. Should make for a good winter project.

What's the best way to check ptv clearances?

Dial indicator is the best way with a degree wheel...

Btw, if you clearance is .040" you will have eyelash marks on the pistons. .050" will have some. .060" and above you're usually okay on the intake.

My calculation tells me it'd be around .041" assuming the stock .160" valve drop. A little tight. I'd measure.

I got very lucky on ny stock cube motor. I pulled the heads to port them and had marks on every piston where the valves touched but didnt bend with a 238/242

Everyone knows .080" is the minimum recommended spec. But from what I've seen or heard, .060" is safe as you usually don't make contact. Once you get to .050" you start to make light contact once in a while as evidenced when you look at the pistons. Then .040" leaves marks more visibly. Anything tighter than that and you're really playing with fire.

I'd feel comfortable at .060" but not much closer.

How does the dish of the lq4 pistons affect ptv clearance? Or does it?

It gives you a little more space. I don't know how much tho.

You do realize this is a LQ4 the OP is talking about with a 6.7cc dish piston right?

Are you adding the depth of the dish to your valve drop measurements? From the looks of those calculations you were not.

Just taking into account radial clearance and depth, you'd have roughly .030-.035 added clearance with the LQ4 pistons.

How does the dish 'radius' of the lq4 pistons and the radius of the valves match? I guess what I'm asking is because I think by looking at pictures of people te fly cut the stock lq4 pistons it looks like even tho there is a dish the 'flat top' part of the pistons around the piston could still cause issue? I don't know how/if that has an affect on anything.

Martin at tick has been extremely helpful on more then one occasion. Thanks for the info!!!

Yes that is why that when I said that even though there is a 6.7cc dish and technically that equates to .040" in depth...you really only end up with around .030" in added clearance.

Martin, so I'm not sure how to do the math lol but I think that means in theory ill have .071 clearance? Is that using .041 gasket? Should be plenty?
Would a sns stage 2 offer better clearance with out a major loss in power? I'm really wanting a good max output. I just hate to buy the stage 3 and it not fit. I don't want to fly cut the pistons since ill be spraying it as well.

What's guess on power going through an auto?

I'm really dragging this out but I don't want to make the wrong choice lol.

Best thing to do is measure what you have now from 20 degrees BTDC to 20 degrees ATDC.

Even with the stock cam, that would give me a better idea what you're working with.
