I have stock 5.3 heads with valve springs. I also get oil on my plug threads. I have a husky filter inline after the pcv. I get it on all of em. Car never smokes. I had a lot of oil in the intake before the filter. I had to spray mccc to clean out some detonation. I use to never go wot. Now I do once every gas tank and my kr never came back, but my car never smokes. Not even up at 6500. Down about half a quart if that at 2300 miles after my last oil change.

Very loose built ls1 set up for a 300 shot. Would it do that?

Yes sir. The car has had 3 different tunes in it since I bought the car. The MAF was dirty when I bought it and it was ~13.5:1 at WOT before we cleaned the MAF. It smoked the same as it does now at ~12.6:1.

Side note, I noticed that there's a dribble of oil running down the side of my driver's side cylinder head, coming from one of my header gaskets, directly below the 2nd exhaust port from the front. None of the other exhaust ports have any oil dribbling down from them. It seems to leak down while the car is sitting, not while it's running, but I am going to verify that. The spark plug from that cylinder has some oil on the threads but none on the electrode.

The valvecover breathers were completely dry when I checked them today. They have been on the car since last fall. I just changed to a closed pcv system today while adding a second catch can and got rid of the breathers to see if there's a change. There was never any steam or smoke coming out of them. Also no puffs out of the oil filler when I remove the cap, just a slight bit of vacuum.

Currently Rotella T6 5w40, but I've used some other 10w30 with no real change. Maybe some Valvoline Racing 50 weight would clear it up, LOL.

Another side note, it does smoke for a bit on decel after a WOT pull, about the same as during the pull. This lasts maybe 10 seconds?

I had a similiar problem on my car after my H/C/I swap. The car wouldn't smoke unless I got in it, then it would smoke like hell and would smoke on decel. The machine shop had set my valve springs up wrong and had pulled all of the valve seals off the valve guide bosses and beat the **** out of them. Replaced all the seals and the problem went away.

Sounds like ring wear. Many TSB's about oil consumption on LS motors and most related to piston rings. Use Napier or hook rings on 2nd compression ring to help stabilize and stop oil consumption, YES, it's the second compression ring they are talking about, not the oil ring assy. You could try a new set of Viton valve stem seals to see if the deceleration oil clouds go away because it's cheep and easier than a rebuild but it sounds like ring wear and it's causing excessive crankcase pressure as well, just saying

Thanks but I've not seen any indication of this? As far as I can tell I don't have crankcase pressure issues. How do I check this other than having no puffs out of the oil filler cap with the engine running and clean breathers?

My last turbo Mustang would have quite a bit of steam coming out of the breathers even at idle, and they would get oily pretty quickly and I would have to replace them often.

Well I just went out and checked the inside of my manifold. I do have oil in there, a thin coating in general but a puddle under the vacuum connection. Maybe my catch can (which is really just a Home Depot Husky air-line water seperator) isn't cutting it.

I just disconnected the connections, capped off the intake port, and put breathers on the valvecovers / valley cover. I'll drive around like that and see if it clears up. How long should it take to clear up if that's the problem?

I just went and made probably 10 third-gear pulls and there's really no change that I can see. Maybe it takes awhile to burn off all the residial oil in the intake, I don't know.

If anything it's now more noticeable on decel right after a pull. It seems to give a little 'puff' in-between shifts. Is this more indicative of valve seals?

Mine all stock 01 does the same thing. Hard to say what is really going on until you tear the entire thing down and know what you are looking for. Mine only has 80k on it, gonna drive it tell gets a lot worse but its been doing this since day 1. Dealer told me the 01's had piston and ring trouble that the rings flutter at high revs. GM is such a bunch of rat bastards. Next time I'll be buying a non smoking car. A qt of oil every 2k is insane and if I drive hard it will suck a qt down fast.

Dealer mentioned the bulletin posted above but told me it didn't help any of the corvettes they put it in. The corvette owners get what ever they ask for ?????? They just ignored me. FK um next time its gonna be a nice Challenger or some Chrysler product, my jeep wrangler has 250k and runs like new.
