They burn up over time, the stock ones seal just fine and last...reuse them.

Go with a procharger and keep the engine stock for a little while - ~450hp. Then when you have the rest of the cash build the 346 forged or get a bigger short block, turn up the boost and then you have your 700hp.

^ That is not a bad idea (I'm being serious) if you plan on sinking 20-30 grand into your car by the time you are finished. We had a local out here with one for probably 10 years, car made like 800WHP and ran strong, but he had like 50K into the car since he bought the firehawk new.
