Replaced oil pump and o ring today, the o ring looks like it had been damaged. Buttoned her back up and still low psi. At a hot idle it's about to kiss the red area. My question is this
I was told to prime the system by unplugging the coil packs and turning it over for 15-20secs and I should see the oil pressure rise. Mine didn't do this at all. So what if the sensor I bought went bad and is reading low. If it didn't read anything while cranking but reads 40psi at a cold start then that could indicate it's off a good 10-20 psi?

The next cheapest thing to check is going to be your opsu, after that it starts to go downhill and get expensive. I would buy a GM opsu and replace yours and see if your oil pressure goes back to normal, and then go from there.

I would be inclined to think your low oil pressure might have something to do with that cam bearing you replaced. Did you measure any of the clearances after installing it to see where your at? Did you use the correct O ring for your application? Are you sure you only scarred the front bearing and not any other?

I just stuck the old plate back on. Torqued them according to ls1 how to's write up (can't really remember).
I inspected the other cam bearings. They seemed fine. I actually had my dad do the cam bearing as he has had more experience with stuff like that. We did check the clearance though. I used the correct o ring as well, yes.

Sounds like it's the sensor to me also..I broke my sensor also when taking my intake off to change the knock sensors & bought one of those cheap sensor's from Oreilly Auto parts & now my oil pressure jumps all around when I come to a stop. I would get one from GM.

To answer the OP's question as to where the oil line for a mechanical gauge "is" at the oil filter. There should be a small aluminum piece bolted next to the filter with 2 bolts. between the 2 bolts it protrudes and in the middle of the protrusion drill and tap a hole using 1/8" npt tap. Then at auto arts store They sell a copper line kit 4 mechanical gauges and included are the correct adapter to go from the 1/8" npt to the 1/8" copper tubing. I believe Autozone has the kit 4 about $10,,,,,comes with 6' of the copper tubing and 1 or 2 compression fittings and 2 adapters. Oh, and BTW, when "priming" the oil system, You should also unplug the injectors at the 2 main harnesses.
