Default Remove Hood While doing major Engine Work?

Do you guys take off your hood to get a little extra room and light while doing major engine work?

Or is it more trouble than it is worth?

Hell if you have a assistant around to do it, I would take it off for major surgery. Less things in the way to cause stress and thrown objects. Just make sure to use a same color touch up paint to make locating marks so it will line up better on reinstall

My truck has a service position to put the hood straight vertical by just moving 2 bolts. I can do it myself in 2 minutes. I don't know about the F-body, check for that before you go to the trouble of removing it completely.

Just pulled and reinstalled an engine through the top in a 2002 camaro. Never removed the hood. I have to do remove it on my 72 nova.

Yeah, I know it's definitely not necessary, but just though it would make my head/cam swap a little easier

I have done all my work with mine on. The only time we've pulled one is when we did an LT1 to LS1 swap which was a lot of work.

I have never.. A buddy did.

I pulled my 346 and put the 370 in through the top with it on. Also did H/C swaps with it on.

Buddy took his odd... It was nice but I would rather leave it on.

If your going to remove it have a buddy, its very easy to catch the fender at the top next to the door if your not careful.

I personally do not, yes it can give you a ton of extra light, but I just did a whole upper rebuild on a buddies car with the hood on. Ripped it all the way down to the block.

Plus after its all said and done you don't have to worry about all the adjustments and alignment of that darn thing.

I never removed mine, as I didn't see it as a "room" hindrance. It would have made lighting in the engine bay a lot better, though.

How many of us have gotten cooked from the damned halogen work lights at night

Yeah they suck lol or the ones that go out as soon as you get under the damned car LOL, pulled my motor from under the hood without removing. Plenty of room but agree with dr whigham., It would make for much better lighting.
