Default Is this block junk?

This is what I found in my friends 14,000 original mile LS6. I Pulled the heads because it was blowing coolant through the exhaust. Was hoping for just head gaskets but found a broken no.7 piston. Then felt what I hoped was a gouge in the cylinder wall but looks like a crack. The motor is still in the car so I couldn't look real close but I stuck my phone down there and took these pictures. ...Now what? ..Order a short block from somebody?? ..Worth sleeving an LS6??

Cracked piston 90 % time pushes the aluminum out and crackes it. If you can see from inside the water jacket it will be cracked also. Get a new or used block.

It was the stock long block running a Maggie 112 supercharger at @7psi. The car is a C5Z that has been boosted since it was new.

Any ideas on cost to resleeve an ls6 block? Is it ok to just sleeve the bad cylinder?

I had my LS6 resleeved to a 427, cost me about $1200 plus shipping to Darton. I wouldnt do just one sleeve, save the cash and do them all.

Only $1200 to make a 427! (plus rotating assy of course), doesn't seem bad. I'd be happy to have @400ci and reuse the LS6 heads. ..What cubic inch would I be at with keeping the stock crank?

387cu.= 4.125 bore x 3.622 stroke. Don't you have to use the evans water system with the darton sleeves?

Yes, the supporting components for the 427 are quite costly. But I havent been in a hurry to get it built so I have been patient and found some great deals on go fast parts.

I've never heard of the Evans water system. I just filled up the radiator with orange fluid and fired away. The cylinder temps are normal (160-170) thermostat opens and closes as needed so everything seems to be normal.

Swung by to talk to my machinist today. He didn't seem to mind the crack in the cylinder. He said he can just sleeve that cylinder only since he is machining them all for 3.905" pistons anyway. He said $250 extra to fix the bad cylinder. I thought it sounded fine to me. Thoughts?

Call Steve at RED and talk to him about it. I can already tell you will advise against sleeving just one cylinder and he is an expert.

I wonder what the issue would be? All cylinders have liners in them now. We would just be machining one out and replacing it. I think I'll call Darton and see what they say.
