Default Mike Norris building my 382 Stroker...what to expect?

First let me say Mike Norris of Ocoee, Florida has done work for me before..I trust his judgement and believe he is a most talented tuner. In short I have every confidence in his skills.

I toasted the #7 cylinder at the Moroso Motorsports track in Palm beach Jan 18..The next day I notice alot white smoke coming from the exhaust. It would not clear up and this had me worried but there was no obvious loss of power. It seems after the diagnosis that I had been driving around with this condition for some time without realizing the severity of the situation.Pressire in the cylinder was 65lbs.I was running the car on 7 cylinders for all practical puposes. NOT GOOD!

Long story short Mike now has the car and we have decided to go with the Lunati 382 stroker kit a nasty Compcam , some new 30# SVO injectors and of course I already have the ARE Stage 2 heads.I've elected to upgrade the gears from 3.42's and went with the new Getrag 3.73 rear and I had just installed the new YANK SS3800 converter that day for the track..the car pulled hard.

Now that Mike is building me this new engine I am vey curious on othere with similiar setups..My car is a 2001 C5 coupe with virtually every bolt on available and my last run was a 11.81@117 with a 1.61 60 foot. Now I'm adding all this new power..

What should I expect when all is done..H.P./Tq? E.T....MPH

its really too hard to say with out knowing your cam specs. too many variables to pinpoint to say your car will run x et at x mph however that stroker kit will feel very nice on the street with that extra torque down low.

my guess is a high 10. Mike does know how to make some fast cars.

I'm sure you'll be very pleased.

well, traditionally speaking of course (in other words, all results vary)...

A 382 stroker isnt going to pick you up a whole lot at the track. Historically, putting the added cubes in the bore has made for fast track cars, while the Lunati 382 stroker kit makes for a very reliable mound of midrange torque, and a really fun to drive car, especially on the street. 383 strokers typically see 450 rwhp, whereas 383 resleeved bore motors have seen 485+ hp. But the stroker wins hands down for torque on the street.

Mike is great at this stuff, and I have no doubt he listened to what you said you wanted.

If all things are equal, I think a stroker is typically worth 3-4 tenths on an otherwise equal car. (30-40rwhp)

382 all bores run those high 10 numbers for sure, with a bigger cam. you should get pretty close to your goal.

most guys on this board either have bigger strokers or have the stock cubes with head/cam packages.

I've got a 382 M6 Camaro with very mild heads (long story, local porter, $800 job) and a 236/232 comp cam. 457rwhp/448rwtq.

best run so far was 11.51@121.7 1.7 60'
This was with 26" Et streets, stock 10-bolt w/ 3.42's and launching at about 6k. Also can't powershift the tranny, synco's are bad.

I have a mosher 12 bolt on order with 4.56's, all lightwieght options with a spool. 28" slics on the way also. Hoping to hit low 11's and then high 10's with a good tranny. I think with ls6 heads, I'd be pushing 480rwhp and running deeper into the 10's.

VINCE:

I tried to unlock ed wrights program and no can do as he locks it up and makes it impossible to reprogram accuratley without reflashing back to stock at a dealership and starting fresh. At least this was my experience a year ago. Best of luck to you man and your new motor should be A BLAST!

We're going with a Compcam 232/232/575-113 up from a Lunati 226/226/554-114. I'm looking for bottom 11's or even touch the 10's with traction.

Of course the secret is getting the PCM programmed with Mike's Dyno Tune/LS1 Edit and unlocking Ed Wrights program for the previous set up.

Anyone else with a similiar setup on a A4 C5..How about any F/Body performance with this combo

I made 450 rwhp and about 450 rwtq with 382 stroker and heads that flows 290 @ .600. My cam is very small for the CI that I have. A lot of the 382 all bore that made about 470+ had bigger cams and ported LS6 heads that flows about 320 @ .600.

My best was 11.6 @ 126.x MPH and 2.2 60’ with drag radials. As you can see my MPH can take me low 10s easy but I am having very bad traction (I have the stock rear end). But, I raced 2 600+ rwhp Supras on the streets (me using 100 shot N2O), and I just smoke them very very bad!

So, I am changing the heads very soon and putting a 232/236 cam in there! And we will see how much power my SS will make (shooting for 470+)

So, it all depends on your cam, how good your heads are, and how good exhaust flow you have! But, 450 rwhp is VERY EASY!!!!

Look at my sig. for more info.

If you need more info drop me an email

PLEASE post when you make the changes.... they're aren't many 382's that I've seen active on the board and it's really nice to have someone to compare against. I've done a LOT of tweaking with my car and I also plan to do a solid roller and LS6 heads in the future.
