And when there IS, likely you won't be here to see it. People usually don't respond to those responding to many-year old posts, for obvious reasons. There is plenty of new tech here, just not constantly. It doesn't take that long to just check here once in a while.

If you PM him he will get a notification here and in his email.
If you reply to a thread he will get no notification and likely has no reason to check a few year old thread.
You could always link the thread in a PM and say hey would you mind responding to my question in the thread?
