If it is not rusty now, and will be stored in a relatively safe envirionment you can simply coat the surfaces with motor oil and wrap it in a sheet of plastic.

If it will stored in a high moisture environment for an extended time period, I would look at some cosmoline products.

I was thinking or rubbing down the Cly walls with Wd-40 and wraping in a plastic bag. It just dawned on me i can get a hold a ton of desicant i could toss in the bag to "wic" moistre

WD-40 is okay for short time periods. In a spray product that similar but longer lasting I would look for some LPS 3. Additionally, I think Rustoleum and 3M offer some higher viscosity WD-40 alternatives that will give longer protection.

Is this something that the local auto parts store would have?

How long are you storing it? Id only use cosmoline if it was being stored really long. Cosmoline is a bitch to clean i use it a lot at work

Try to find a place that sells Mystic oil products. They have aerosol cans of spray grease. One can will cover all 8 cylinder walls, deck, mains and bearings. Be nice to your builder, though, and find a car wash with hot water and wash it good before you take it to him, grease (including Cosmoline) are tough to get off even in a block washer.
Forget WD-40, it won't last a month. You need something with stick.

Yep, they make engine block storage bags. I would coat it, bag it and put some desiccant in there as well to keep it dry.

I've stored many cylinders (bare metal machine parts) with CRC HDCI. Wrap them in a zip-tied garbage bag and forget it.

Go to any marine supply store and they will have many similar options.

Drop 'er in a barrel of used oil and put the lid on. It'll be fine in 1000 years.
I actually have a buddy that has a DZ302 block stored this way.
