Default How to tell if I have a long crank LQ4??

I picked up a cheap LQ4 rotating assembly with a ton of miles. My plan is to rebuild it with forged internals and re use only the block and crank. I just found out the 99-00 LQ4's came with a longer crank and will cause a head ache when it comes to trans options. The heads and flex plate were already off the motor, is there any other way to tell if it's a long crank??

You should have about 1/4 inch of crank sticking out of the rear main seal. The early engines will be 3/4 to 1 inch sticking out. A few 2500 series 4L80E Suburbans came with a removable spacer that sometimes rusts on and looks like part of the crank.

Thanks man. I checked it last night and I do have a long crank. Dammit. I was planning on running a TH400 but it seems like the converter becomes a PITA. Looks like I need a crank, is the rear main cover the same?

That info is incorrect. The 16 is the short flange and the 15 is the early long flange

I haven't seen one of these in the flesh but I'm wondering if the flange can be machined shorter and the holes drill and tapped deeper.

Question.... I have the long crank. will this work properly with a 4L80E ?
I would hope so since the LQ4 I got came out of a truck with the 4L

think you just need a different flex plate than the short crank version

With a th400 I figured it would just bolt up without the spacer used with the shorter cranks.

the long crank would be preferred for any of the old school transmission options

Nope. The torque converter pilot will bottom out in the crank.
So the key is getting the correct torque converter.

This is correct, mine has the crank spacer and flat flexplate (witch is the same as a long crank) and bolts directly up to a th350/th400
