That's cuz it's a small bore motor with limited choices for heads. And even decent heads like 799s have their valves shrouded by the small bore.

Yea best thing to do on a 5.3 is follow the L33s design of flat tops for high compression with good 243/799/aftermarket heads...when you have small cubes you need rpm to make big power if NA...do a google search on the test where hot rod magazine got junkyard 4.8 and 5.3 and made mid 400s hp on the engine dyno by using ported/aftermarket heads with a fast top intake and bigger injectors...very impressive test!

If keeping stock cubes you would almost have to spin it up to 7000+ rpms to keep that kind of wheel hp bc that's 600 crank hp you're talking about...not saying it can't be done but more than likely would be a first...def have to be well engineered package that's for sure
